So I'm plugging in to a 7kW fast charger at a holiday cottage, and usually at home on my granny charger I can stop charging by unlocking the car.
However, when I plugged in here the charge just started when I plugged in, even though the car was unlocked and when it was done the only way to stop it was to use the CB on the charger.

My question is, is this normal?

In my experience, no.

I'm not sure I have ever used a fast (7kW) charger other than the one I have at home but I'm sure that, other than when using a rapid (so using CCS connection), unlocking the car has always caused the charging to stop. It certainly did on the one occasion I needed to use a 3.5kW on-street unit.

What EVSE is it?

Thanks for the replies. This is the charger - it says Rolec on the front.

There's no card to swipe - it's always active. I just had to pay a flat fee to the owner to use it as needed during our stay (he claims ignorance of all matters EV).

Get him to switch it off at where ever the installers put the main switch for it. That will definitely stop the charge.

True, it will stop the charge. But it might not be convenient to access, and it's brutal on the electronics. It's always best to stop a charge electronically, not mechanically.

Ok in an emergency, of course.

Well, the second time I tried it, it did stop temporarily, and long enough to get the plug out. Seems a bit of a haphazard way to stop a charge, but I suppose that's the price of having a car with no app.

My guess is that the first time (I was tired out from the day) I had a senior moment and failed to realise it was stopping for a moment.

Anyway, thanks for those who posted trying to help.
