New owner! Rear view camera on my excite is not great… any way of upgrading?

Not great in what way exactly?
Post a pic of the screen display.

It's certainly not a class leader in terms of resolution but I'd still say it's fit for its intended purpose.

I'm not disappointed by it at all, but I've never had a reversing camera before so I've nothing to compare it with.

My suspicion (and that's all it is) is that it's probably a fairly standard USB device, so it may be possible to swap it out for something else. Whether the infotainment system would know how to scale a higher-resolution feed, even if it had the right drivers for the replacement camera, I don't know.

No doubt there will be a youtube video about it some day :D

My only issues with the reversing camera are that it's slow to start and prone to getting covered in crap making it difficult to see what's behind you but the resolution is fine for me.

My other car has an analogue reversing camera and it's much better than that!
I can see why expectations might be high though. You find very good cameras in even the cheapest mobile phones so the component parts can't be that expensive.

I would say that the image is comparable with the one in my X5, not great, but good enough. Frankly because of the 'fish eye' effect, you would not really be very safe using it solely to reverse anyway.

I was pleasantly surprised how good mine was when I used it in dark(ish) conditions this evening :)
