Hi
I use my MG5 2023 as a taxi and have done 55,000 miles in first year. All's good apart from the rear tyres that have worn out on the inside very badly, they had done 45,000 miles as original tyres but could of got a few more thousand if it wasn't for the uneven wear.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there a solution?

Yes, had the same on my SR5. Too much load right at the back was the cause of my issue, once I moved the load more forward (I carry parts etc) the tyre wear became much more even. You could actually see the top of the rear wheels were angled inwards. I think the suspension? was not upgraded to carry the battery and a bigger load from it's petrol car days.

Thanks for info. I would say 80% of my journeys are with one person sitting in back maybe 5% fully loaded so would be disappointed if that resulted in such excessive wear.
Also disappointing that a manufacturer would allow such a fault to exist. Really appreciate your response.

Rear wheel drive issues and it being an EV. Have the similar type of wear on our ZX on the front tyres after 20,000 mile with little wear in the rears.

I used to get similar issues of tyre wear right on the inside edge on the front tyres of the Vauxhall Meriva we used own. It was almost as though the shoulder had been shaved at 45 degrees to a width of around 1.5 cm. This was a camber related problem, and non adjustable in the case of the Meriva, and as @5teep has pointed out load dependant too. I'm not familiar with the suspension design of the MG 5 but that too could increase the wear because as the suspension moves it can cause changes in the camber angle.
I found it most important to keep the tyres inflated to the recommended pressure at all times. I was then able to get about 20 thousand miles out of the tyres before excessive wear became an issue, so I'm impressed @Taximan123 that you've managed to get 45 thousand out of the tyres anyway, even if they are non driven wheels.

My average (with various makes of car ICE over 40+yrs) was nearer the 20k miles mark. I part ex'd our ZS EV mk1(less than 20k) yet the tyre treads were great. Now we've an MG5 & regardless of the wear you mentioned I'll be pleased if I can get 45k!!

My FL5 is on original tyres and now at 46k miles. Rears look as new, fronts 5mm

Mine is a works car, I do on average 800-1000 miles a week and I reckon I get about 20k miles on the front tyres. Always go for Michelin Primacy 4's because they were way better than the originals but I have no idea if they are the best. Rears last much longer of course.

Did you rotate the tyres if you didn’t that’s why only rears worn out
