rear wiper - missing cover?

sorry for the odd question, but noticed on my MG5 LR that the rear wiper looks a bit odd. it might well be "as designed" but the photo below shows you can see the internals / grease etc so i thought id check with you lot ;-) and see if this is how its supposed to look?

Anyone else noticed this

Similar on the ZS EV .
As others have said, the slot is where the washer jet fires through.
The cover on the ZS EV looks like this.

It's a bit of an ugly design but that is how it's meant to be.
 
I’m pretty sure a lot of rear wash wipers are like this my vw transporter is the same.

might be the slot for a water jet but on my MG5 the jet comes down from the top, probably just used an existing part when they built the 5.

I've thought about this and without going to the car I can't actually remember what it did.
As you say, it's probably just copied from another vehicle.
 
These round covers are very easily washed off their clip mount if you’re not careful! (Especially if using a jet wash).
