Reverse camera help

Good evening and thank you to anyone that can help. I installed and routed all the cables for my reverse camera. I am at the step where I need to drill out the plastic under the spoiler and route the cables in. The thing is, the cables are very thick and I dont really want to drill a 12mm hole. I had the idea of cutting the cable in half, routing it and reconnecting. I was wondering if anyone has an idea if this is feasible or not. If anyone has done it before. All your insights can be useful. Thank you

I am posting a pic of the camera with the cable and the red line is where I figure I should cut it in half.

How annoying that you can't unplug the cable and feed it through with a small plug.

I got one added but I didn't see how the installer did it. I just let him get on with it. So I can't give any advice unfortunately.

For a bunch of people that got the reverse camera, it came with a small connector that they would pass through and connect. I contacted my seller and they say this is the new better model. A step back if you ask me. I am posting a pic of what it looked like:

Yes I think ours had a separate camera with a single connector.

The quality of ours isn't fantastic, so perhaps better resolution will be the consolation for you once you've got it connected.

Having to cut a cable does not seem like an improvement, though!

It should be possible to cut the cable where you wish but are your fingers nimble enough to strip and join the four cores back up again?

Yeah, no clue. Don't even know what it looks like inside the cable.

The camera i have is different, but I did a similar thing to get the cable through the rubber tube from boot lid to car body more easily, see pictures in this post:

The cut in the cable was up near the control box for easy access in case of any problems.

As mentioned in the post, I couldn't see an obvious difference in image quality after the cut and splice. However I took extreme care to not lose a single strand when stripping the very fine wires.

Yeah, not in my country and a lot of European countries. Anyways to close the thread I just gave up and drilled a 15mm hole in the plastic, pulled the cables through and placed some silicone around the hole. Hopefully it does not leak

Cool hope it’s ok good luck with it, I’m in the UK we have a MG 4 trophy extended range 77kW battery, we love it decent power and obviously more miles between charges.

Our camera was installed with the hole facing downwards from the tail/spoiler. Above the rear number plate.

I'm sure you did a good job with it.
