Hi all, new to this forum, although on loads of others!
I have just ordered an MGS5 which the dealer informed me is now in the country & being registered today. Its replacing a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV so used to plug in Hybrids but I've only ever charged the Mitzy away from home twice in nearly 4 years.
Expect zillions of questions, I have no home charger at the moment. I have an external 13 amp socket which the Mitzy is plugged into permanently when not in use. I have just ordered a 13 amp lead from Amazon in preparation for the car arriving which will be second week of October.

Wait for the comments about using a granny EVSE on a 13A socket.
 
That may force my hand to get a proper charger installed as well. Currently trying to do the maths on the myriad suppliers, to see which is best.
 
I am a part qualified Sparks so currently (sorry!) the Mitzy is on a long extension lead from the house. All made using good quality bits. The Dura Plug gets a bit warm @ 10Amps (which is the Max the Mitzy does) but is OK over 4 years.

I waited for a year so that I had some idea what I was doing. Electricity was about 30p/unit but I was prepared to swallow that. The issue of long charging times was solved by the presence of a 50 kw charger five minutes walk away which was also 30p/unit at the time. So I would give the car up to its time limit on that charger, then move it to the granny to get to 100% and balance. It was fine.

But then they increased the price of that charger to 60p/unit and I wasn't paying that. And I had one day when I was driving so much I was struggling to keep up with myself on the granny. And I began to hanker for the Octopus 7.5p/unit overnight rate, but knew that six hours of that wouldn't really be enough on the granny sometimes.

So. My neighbours in an identical (mirror-image) house had a full solar panel installation put in just about the time I got my car. He is an engineer, so I thought that if he had done all the legwork with the myriad suppliers, I'd take advantage of that. I asked him if he was happy with his installation and his supplier, and if so, who was it? He said he was, and five weeks later I had an identical set-up. 18 panels, inverter, home battery and Zappi. I made about £350 from solar export in the first year, after running the house and charging the car. Octopus pay me, rather than the other way round.
