Hi all

Thought I'd share that I took my Urban in for an SC098 service campaign recall. today. Apparently it was to update ALL software. Unfortunately, at the end of the day they called to say they couldn't get the software to load and so have had to go to MG HQ for advice. Anyone had this recall yet and if so, were you more successful? Thanks for a great site too☺️

Hi,
No recall - yet. Did you get the recall info from the dealership or via some car system ?
No, I contacted the dealer to complain about all the usual scary LKA and FCA problems everyone reports and demanded they check if any software needed updating that would help. They said that (coincidentally or not) they'd just got a recall notice from HQ so would be able to install the very latest versions related to that, which turn out to be those in SC098.

Latest news is that the software packet is so large, they couldn't download it onto their laptop, so are currently wiping one to use. Laughable but at least the service manager is keeping me informed every step of the way. He was also very kind and even brought my car up from the dealer some 50 miles away so we could swap the courtesy car for mine and save me the trip, given they haven't been able to complete the job yet and don't know when they will be able to.

I've seen complaints about MG aftersales service being poor, but so far so good with my dealer.

Well thats something new.. But at least they seem to do a decent job - so I would definitely recommend you to stick with that dealer

interesting i have not had any issues with my lane keep assist nor other aids it's been butter smooth for me. It could be there are updates for other things too obviously but unless it is broken i'd rather not fix it.

Production date is at least as late as Jan 2026. I can't find out for sure as not on the VIN plate in the driver's door frame but the seatbelts have a date of Jan 2026.
check the glove box, there should be a printout of when the vehicle rolled off the production line

maybe would be best to start a new thread about software updates for the Urban as there might be different update packages for each type eg Comfort vs Premium in UK)

Very surprised to learn that there's still problems with LKA and FCA on the new models. Been going on for years. Would have thought they would have been ironed out by now.

haven't seen any reports of issues on the new models hence i'm intrigued what this service campaign is about

We certainly find the ICA, LCA and FCA to be less that satisfactory and potentially dangerous - e.g. braking hard on A road when motorbikes at least 50m ahead (pedestrian/cyclist alert comes up), veering towards a car rapidly approaching in fast lane when we were in slow lane on A road, very poor speed sign recognition - picking up signs on side roads. Put it this way, currently driving with them all off!

would you mind posting a picture of your system version? software, firmware, etc

This?

I can only speak for the MG4 but I am very sure it's the same for the Urban: In case of the MG4, the car has 23 different controller modules - what you see with the R Version is only one of them. In case of the not Urban, the R Version indicates the software version running on the Infotainment System, which is separate from the others. So if you are having issues with the Lanekeep Assists, that's very likely a different controller module. To get the software version of it, you have to use SIPS (which is the official tool from MG to update them).

indeed. i'm certain there are updates, but i probably have the same version modules as the OP and i have had zero issues so far.
i'm not ruling out a potential issues in the future, and im sure in due course i'll find out if there's any urgent update.
Maybe if the dealer could share the actual text info in the service campaign, would help me make a decision.
And i did have the original MG4 (SE) for over two years so i know what the problems were back then and i know they got fixed over time. The Urban i have now doesnt display any odd behaviours as of yet.
Of course there might be hidden issues which might need to be resolved to do with battery management or power delivery or battery cooling or charging. the list could go on and on.
