Hello, first post on here, please be gentle 😊.

Been doing a lot of research on my next car, short list is down to 2, one of them is the MG HS 2025 Phev.
After a test drive earlier this week, one of the negative surprises of the deal I am still negotiating is the service package, 37 pounds per month seems quite high? That's 444 pounds per year. My CRV from 2022 has a 5 year service package at 599. The guy at the MG dealership told me that services on these Phevs are normally more expensive and I think that's incorrect. Any thoughts on this please?

I have just (3 weeks ago) purchased a 6-month-old MG HS 2025 Phev. For what it's worth, I think the car is great.

It's on my 'to do list' to work out whether to purchase a service plan, so actually I needed to do some research anyway on this exact topic, so here's what I have found.

If you go to the official MG website (https://www.mg.co.uk/mg-service-plans) and go through the wizard (for a 6-month old car that has not yet had a service) then you'll get this quote:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

HS Petrol/Electric 15k/1 year Service

£195.40
31/10/2025Age at Service: 1

HS Petrol/Electric 30k/2 year Service

£312.06
31/10/2026Age at Service: 2

HS Petrol/Electric 45k/3 year Service

£301.68
31/10/2027Age at Service: 3

HS Petrol/Electric 60k/4 year Service

£710.88
30/10/2028Age at Service: 4

HS Petrol/Electric 75k/5 year Service

£415.00
30/10/2029Age at Service: 5
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So (by my reckoning) if you buy a brand-new MG HS PHEV, drive 10k miles per year, then (on its 5th birthday) you will have paid a total of £1,935.02 in service costs (averaging £387 for each of its 5 services). That sounds fairly reasonable to me. (My guess is that the expensive 4th service changes the automatic gearbox fluid, which explains the increase in cost).

However, some caveats:
  • The prices above may (of course) go up with inflation
  • If you purchase a service plan direct from MG, they do not seem to give you the option to pay that £1,935.02 in one go (upfront). Instead, you have to pay monthly which (somehow) they add about £60 to (giving a total of £1,996.22). Not sure where the extra £60 comes from, but it's not a showstopper of course.

-----------------------------------------------------
For the record, the dealer that I bought my car from has just sent me a quote which covers only the 2nd, 3rd and 4th services (because they had already done service #1 when I bought it). Their price is £1,730.94
  • This compares with purchasing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th services direct from MG, which total up as £1,324.62.
=> Therefore I think I am going to purchase a service plan direct from MG !!
-----------------------------------------------------

Incidentally, if you play around with the official MG website, then it gives you the following information for its 6th year service too:
++++++++++++++++

HS Petrol/Electric 90k/6 year Service

£361.94
01/05/2030Age at Service: 5
++++++++++++++++

Looks like im gonna get rear ended for service 4 then end of May 29

Thanks for this. Having paid 599 for 5 year service on my CRV, the MG service costs look a bit on the high side. Still that won't stop me from getting one...

It didn't stop me. Picking a red PHEV 2025 trophy next week...

Hi HStrophyPHEV2025rc
Do the figures above include VAT? I've just been quoted £1041.76 inc vat for a 3 year service plan on the HS PHEV I'm collecting today. If your figures are nett then the dealer's quote seems reasonable. If they're including vat, there's £200 'fat' in there for the dealer which I'm not inclined to go along with.

I drive a MG3 Hybrid. Is there a huge difference in your hybrid and mine? Reason for asking is my service plan for 3 years including mot is £756.00. aitch

Hi,
so did you anyone of you purchase the service plan and do we know what it normally includes.
I am unable to find the nitty gritty of what is included in this price. I am getting a quote directly from MG wesbite.
Thanks
Mani

Agreed all seem to be a set service price, I took out 3 services when I bought mine paid 27.70 a month for the 4 years on which it will be covered and also includes the 1st MOT. I am aware the 4th Year one is more expensive as they do something with the batteries I believe so is more expnsive - one of my mates missus is now on the service desk at local garage so hoping to get a good discount on 4th year service ? thats if shes still there then !!

Mine is something like y1 195 y2 400 y3 400 then year 4 will be about 900, then year 5 back down again.

I purchased will find out on 30th May, but supposed to be a standard service plan so obviously not - tyres / wiper blades. But ansything which isw listed as needing doing in the service plan better be included otherwise no point in having a service plan.

thank you. do you know where can i find what is included? really strange that MG dont provide that on their website.

When I booked my car in for its first service the dealer's computer came back to me with a confirmation and a list of the optional extras that I might like to select.
One was to rotate the wheels front to back etc
Second was to debug and regas the aircon system.
And the third I can't remember.
Clearly not included in the service plan.
I didn't accept any of them but the aircon refresh was listed as an advisory on the invoice. Since then I've received monthly texts saying that there is outstanding maintenance work required on the car, please call the dealer. 🤷‍♂️

aaah exactly that is what i was thinking. there must be things which are excluded and they are been cheeky not to share the list of stuff covered under their service plan. thank you for sharing this.

In case it's interesting to someone, I personally purchased a service plan (direct from the MG website) in September 2025. You have to choose your preferred garage (naturally I chose my closest one). Because I'm likely to move away from the area in a few year's time, I chose the 3-year option (without MOT), which cost me £837.94 (which is £26.28 per month, for those modern people who like to deal with per month costs). I think that this is a reasonable price for a car which has both a petrol and electric motor, and both have to be looked at.

I have already used one of the services (when the car reached 1 year old). It went smoothly, and there was zero cost to me (apart from £20 for a courtesy car for the day).
