I think you are ok else where as long as they use MG parts but you won't get another 12 months free AA cover.

AFAIAA, under EU block exemption rules that is correct - and still the case after Brexit.

However, the independent garage would still have to do all the things that the manufacturer specified in their service schedule, down to correct lubricants etc.

is it worth the risk and what's the saving? read some posts here about using non-MG for repairs and bits and bobs which then turn out into a major headache ...

You're right, also by staying with MG I get extra year roadside assistance

just make sure they register it, I usually call the assistance number a week or so after the service to check it's AA covered
