Hello,

This might have been discussed somewhere but i now i have done a real test.
In a toyota chr , if i do 3 two mile trips the same day in normal city driving conditions, the fuel economy is something like :
8.5 then 6.5 then 3.5 l
With MG ZS it's rather 10 then 8.5 then 7 l
There is clearly a difference between the two hybrid systems. I am still in first days of ownership, so i am asking if you figured out a way to optimize fuel economy during periods where the car drives low mileage.

Thank you

My MG 3 uses a lot more fuel at the moment because I have the heater on. The engine is what warms the cabin. I don't know how Toyota do it, but the difference might be there. Turn off the heating and do the same test.

Have you figured out the best mode/regen and way of driving in short trips so that the warm up phase doesn't consume a lot of fuel?

Hi, no I haven't, I prefer warmth to fuel economy so haven't even thought about it.

Generally, fuel economy is a lot worse at the MG with short winter trips as the engine is basically always running for the heater, and the system in itself is tunned more for EV driving at lower speeds; The Toyota Hybrid system has an entirely different philosophy, and tech as well, with the engine doing lot more driving than only charging as in the MG, and thanks to the planetary gearbox, is more flexible at combining these scenarios; The MG uses the electric drive more or less exclusive at lower speeds because of the gearing setup, thus once the battery is full, but heat is required the engine is more or less wasting petrol at idling if you like. This setup would really benefit a lot from an additional electric heater, ideally running directly form the hybrid battery.
