VW group gearing up for their smaller EVs to be released next year.
Good for the market and choice.

Cupra Raval, VW ID Polo and small Skoda to join Renault 5, Nissan Micra and soon to be New Ford Fiesta.

Raval in particular is getting excellent pre launch reviews.

We previously bought two Seat Ibizas and so if the Raval had been out several years ago there is a fair chance we would have got that instead of the MG4.

VW have been far too slow, but great that they are getting there.

I agree I read a review of a pre launch car and they said if they had built the Raval first there would be no need for the Born.
Seemingly the space inside is excellent for the size of the car (including the boot) and according to a couple of reviews I've read/watched (we all know these can be subjective) the brakes are amongst the best available on an EV, in terms of feel etc.

It also looks well specced with a great range for a smallish battery, 56kwh 280 mile range

Makes sense...
Smaller car = lighter and more aerodynamic = longer range.

56kWh is a sensible battery size. Enough to make a long journey viable but not carrying around excess weight all the time.

Maybe they were waiting for battery costs to come down enough that it wouldn't have to be pitched at a much higher price point than the equivalent ICE car

Going to be loads of small EVs on the market soon, Renault 5/Alpine led the way

They are making their own batteries now at Martorell in Spain, it's gearing up for 300000 units a year.
The fact they are making their own batteries will probably mean it qualifies for the full EV grant, like the Renault 5.

Must admit, I expected (hoped) to see a 5 second 0-60 Raval.

I think they have chosen the lighter better handling route like the alpine

I certainly hope that the 5 miles/kWh claimed for it, (280 miles range and 56kWh battery) are achievable as it looks to be an interesting prospect.
