This is a question relating to the Speed Limit Recognition system in the Cyberster.

I believe that the system uses a hybrid of road sign recognition and database linked to the GPS. This conclusion has been reached based on the changes to the speed limits in Fairford, Gloucestershire, UK.

About 6 months ago significant changes were made to the speed limits in Fairford. Previously the speed limit sequence, when travelling through the town from west to east, were 60 then 40, 30, 40, 50 and finally 60 again. These were changed to 60, 40, 30, 20, 30, 40 then 60. The 30 limit while exiting the town was extended significantly into the zone which had been 40.

The Cyberster recognises the speed limits and changes as the road signs are passed, however, the system reverts to 40 while still in the new 30 zone (presumably due to an outdated database).

Does anyone know how to update the database in the Cyberster?

While I am asking, does anyone know how to update the mapping database?

Thanks in anticipation of info.

I found this information online. I don't know if it's helpful. Your dealer will undoubtedly be able to tell you more about it, including any associated costs (it's not free and costs quite a bit). Good luck with it. 🌐

As I kind of expected, there's no update for the Cyberster yet 😫. Perhaps we can find out if the update for another MG model is also compatible with the Cyberster. I'll ask someone who works at MG Europe. To be continued.

Thanks for the updates.

I probably should have mentioned that in December 2025 I contacted Naviextras and asked them how to update the Cyberster. They asked me for screenshots of various pages from the car and replied telling me that it is not a Naviextras product.

I also asked MG UK and they said “Comtact your dealer”.

It seems to be a mystery which provider was used for the mapping in the Cyberster.

Maybe your maps are up to date already because looking at the official website seems like the latest version is from mid 2024.

As far as I know our car does small map updates OTA and the big ones must be done through an USB.
I wonder is it is because they just don't upgrade our data plan to allow for more data, and I guess is the same reason why there is no OTA for the rest of the car. That would explain why at the end of the month some users are already running out of data.
