I never knew the speed limit recognition was so bad

It's a matter of you feeling good about being annoyed or not. I just ignore what I don't like. I don't bother turning off sign recon or LKA. the bad they are doing is less than the conscious effort of (remembering) to turn them off.
But you are right, neither is doing any good to me
Agree completely. Getting annoyed about these issues is a choice.

Very odd. When I pass an NSL sign I get this on the driver's screen.

And if I exceed 60 mph then that will flash, even if I'm on a dual carriageway. It's very annoying. I may inquire about getting this seen to at a future date, if you have a fix.
Mine used to do that, but after SC077 (and whatever else was updated at the same time) it stopped doing it and responds now as per my previous description.

I can confirm the same on SE. Sign recognition is terrible and doesn't use map data to guess the speed limit where there's no signs. And worst of all, you can't disable it permanently.

It didn't work all that well on the Focus I had previously, so I'm assuming it's a hit or miss system in most cars. I've even seen two different types of limit not recognised "dashes".

Given speed limit signs seem to have a slightly different format around the world, it's probably not too surprising. I certainly wouldn't entertain letting the "recognition" control the car's speed automatically.

I tried that once when we just got the car, pulled into a parking lot and they had a tiny sign with a 10 or maybe even a 5 on it, car just slammed on the brake to take itself down to the low speed, it was like I crashed into something. That particular system is definitely useless in my opinion.

Any system that relies on a camera only is going to get it wrong much of the time.
I haven't had a car where this actually works reliably. The Tesla is the best I've seen but Waze (the app) gets it right nearly every time.

Think I'm gonna buck the trend. My speed sign recognition. Seems to be working fine, on my X Power. One particular duel carriageway near me, has got 4 different speed limits on one stretch. It changes to the correct limit, perfectly. And on other roads, no problems, too. 🙂👍

I've not been too bothered by the speed recognition until today.

It is often wrong but understandably so.

Today it kept switching to 60 in a 30mph zone and kept switching to 40mph on the dual carriageway (I think because there were upside down signs in the central reservation awaiting deployment for overnight roadworks in the other direction).

Spent more time being wrong than right today!

As well as reading side-roads, perhaps it is getting worse because more and more vehicles have the little signs on the back of them indicating their maximum speed restrictions.

I usually switch off speed recognition as it seemed better at looking up side roads than straight ahead. Also the A9, which we do a lot, has numerous 50mph signs for lorries, and that doesn't help. I haven't really tried it with the latest firmware update.
BUT.... I think you may have found the cause that so many people somehow seem to think their human rights are being removed, and are unable to do less than 35 in a 20mph zone. At the front of our minds at the moment as herself saw a campervan in the village this morning doing, shall we say, it's own speed, while the driver was trying to read a map propped up on the steering wheel.
Where's the software update for that?

it’s a soft brain update in prospect- hopefully theirs on the inside of the windscreen and not anyone else’s on the outside.
