I have a 2025 HS PHEV trophy, less than 1 week old. Generally happy except for the awful speed recognition and subsequent "bongs". Outside of 30 and 5o zones, the system is ALWAYS wrong, for example on the M4 from Swindon to Bristol it claimed the limit was 40! I havent noticed it accurately notify the national limit at all, ever! Has anyone else got this problem before I contact the dealer?

Strangely it started to work again yesterday, national limits correctly identified as 60 or 70 - perhaps some OTA update?

@Dirk - For what it's worth, my car's infotainment was upgraded from R46 to R62 last week. Since then (because of roadworks) I've gone past a 'national speed limit' sign (white with black cross) 4 times (I normally don't go past one). Each time I've checked to see what my car says. Every time it instantly changes the display screen from a red 30 circle to a red 60 circle (correct) immediately after crossing the boundary.

From my memory, I think that in the past (R46) it used to show the white circle (with black line) symbol (instead of red 60 circle), but that could be a false memory in my aging head!

Naturally the system relies on the camera, so if it's cold/frosty, or rainy, or foggy, then the camera may not be working properly. That might explain it intermittently failing.

Oh, and I may be wrong but I don't think we ever get any OTA updates. I think only the garage can perform them, so (in theory) your intermittent problem is not explained by infotainment software updates.

My car tells me the limit is 90mph in a 30 zone.

Another time it claimed the limit was 115mph. Very strange.

I had a leaf get stuck on my front camera when I got home and noticed it I removed it no problems since.
On another point I had a drumming sound looked every where then found it was the sun visor which I had moved to my side window to block out the setting sun and had not made sure it was back in its correct position.

After 7 months of MG trying to make my XPower safe to drive, I had a final software update in August which made my speed recognition tolerable. Sorry I don’t know the number of the update but other replies have mentioned update numbers which may help. I would definitely recommend getting you software updates by your dealership - but don’t offer to wait, my update took over 24 hours!

My HS PHEV Trophy has recently lost the ability to recognise the 'national speed limit' sign. This means it recognises everything from 20 - 50 mph but when going past a national speed limit sign, it remains at the last limit sign it recognised.

It first did it a couple of weeks ago, then it came back a for a few days and then it's stopped working.

I'm guessing that FOTA updates do occur (hence the now it works, now it doesn't) situation with the car but, as with most manufacturers' major software updates have to be carried out by a dealer.

The entertainment software level is currently R62 as updated by the excellent dealer in Banbury (Evans Halshaw) back in May 2025 to cure the previous speed limit recognition and loss of star keys software issues.

No major trauma, I just switch off the feature before setting off along with a couple of other settings.

Now at 21000 miles in 14 months and still loving every drive.

After my post on Thursday where it had started to work again, I am now back to before - ie 30 and 50 zone recognition only, no national speed limit. Bizarre and not what I expect from a 2 week old car. In addition my GPS has now stopped working as well. Multiple resets, no change. Having a chat with the dealer tomorrow....

I was out today and all the speed limit recognitions were working again - ie national limits have reappeared (60 and 70). Will see what happens tomorrow.

I normally run Google maps through Car Play and it's surprising how often the MG database/camera system differs from Google maps - and that isn't to say Google is always right, when there's a discrepancy it's often wrong. So whilst I feel your pain with a two week old car misbehaving, have faith - it's a great car overall.

Obviously your GPS issue needs looking at, hopefully the dealer will come up with a fix.
