Sport Mode Test

Does anyone actually use sport mode?!

I'm committed to Eco and driving like I'm transporting a wedding cake. My kids would prefer 'fast' mode!

We've had our MG5 for nearly a year now and I've never used 'Sport' mode, never felt the need. Ours stays in 'Normal' and I try to drive as economically as possible, however I did floor it once and this caused our dog to fart ?

Much more “cool “ to arrive at Tesco’s, or wherever the race finishing line was, to be plugging in at the free pit stop fuelling unit as the car you pulled away from draws up. The driver asks about the car that out dragged him and you say it’s just a cheap estate car the you habitually drive in eco to save on free fuel used ?

It was scary enough for me to put my foot down in normal mode, so I've not had mine in sport mode yet.

Maybe I'll give it go one day.

I was definitely ahead off the line! I actually backed off at the end as he was clearly in a rush to get somewhere.

Yeah - looked like the 0-30mph is the MG5's strongest range with the 30-60mph being fast but ICE cars pull a little back at that stage. Especially when you back off ?

Nothing wrong with using sports mode off the lights but better on your own?

Then there’s that wonderful smugness on hills, the steeper the better, and in any mode, as the motor just tugs endlessly onwards as the ICE’s search for ever lower gears in you’re (distant) wake ???.

I used to put it into sports mode around town, as I thought it'd be fun and I didn't mind about the cost - plugging in at home occasionally.
But I did find it annoying how much I ended up spinning the wheels every time I put my foot down.
So I am an Economy convert now - still plenty of zip if in a hurry!

I was on the A61 coming from Barnsley to where I live and a Subaru Impreza came storming up behind me so I popped it into sport mode and gave the accelerator a tickle ? and the scooby was a small spec in the rear view mirror ?

Sports mode only adjusts throttle / brake sensitivity not actual power. sorry to be a spoil sport!

I hate sports mode, it spins the wheels & stops so quick I expect airbag deployment!

I guess I got used to eco mode, sometimes normal mode.

I haven't tried the brake using sports mode. Will give it a try tomorrow.

True.
Although I usually drive in normal mode, I like the quicker response from half pedal in ECO mode
as the curve steepens.

I’ve been using sports mode for this stretch of duel carriage way to blast off and get ahead of the crowd on a regular longer trip, but today I forgot to flick the switch as I approached the start. Result was same acceleration and leaving everyone standing, but I found the steering too loose at speed in Eco

If your pedal is floored it won't make a difference which mode your in... The acceleration is the same ... Hence why I just drive in normal mode.
