Starlink and CarPlay

ChatGPT is quite confident that if I plug CarPlay into USB, I should be able to use Starlink on WiFi, but the car insists that I must connect the iPhone to the MG WiFi even for wired CarPlay.

Can anyone think of a way to make it work?

Right, to continue this monologue until one of you techno geeks feels able to join in…

I was able to get it to work this afternoon, and the sequence was that my phone was still connected to my home Wi-Fi, I connected CarPlay, then connected the phone to the Starlink, and it all just worked.

I'm not sure I could reliably reproduce this sequence, though.

Does have anyone have any insight as to what is actually going on?

I don't know what the cause of the problem is, but just in case someone in the future is looking for this, the answer appears to be removing and re-inserting the lightning cable a number of times until it works. It seems to be about three times.
