just bought a USB switch for my CarPlay dongle CarPlay works fine if I switch it on after about 30 seconds,the only problem I have now is when I make a phone call using CarPlay, there’s no volume tried resetting but it doesn’t solve the issue, the only way I can make a phone call using CarPlay is to disconnect my iPhone from the Bluetooth, my infotainment won’t let me have both running it’s either 1 or the other.

What do you mean about a USB switch?

If I am guessing what you mean you had a CarPlay dongle but it was not connecting so you bought a switch to be able to turn it on after 30 seconds?

Most dongles have a settings page where you can delay their start up. I have mine set to wait 30 before it tries to connect.

It could be the switch is not a full usb pass through. A lot of them are simple and not fully supporting all usb communication.

yes if its a switch its likely not designed for audio and if its a cheaper one they probably cheaped out on that and focused more on the power side of it which is probably what causes the no audio problem. Check the manual for your dongle online or in the packaging if you still have it. There should be a URL you can go to, to change the delay during start up. (That was meant to quote both of you, not sure why it didn't work)

A switch which turns off the CarPlay wireless dongle just saves pulling the usb out every time I want to connect my CarPlay dongle I think you can build a delay into the dongle my dongle doesn’t allow me to do that so the switch does for me

Mine has a page where I can alter settings but for the delay it just says mode 1 or default which I’ve tried both settings even updated the firmware so the switch was my only option.
Where did you get your dongle from and have you got a link to it please

Most do. Mine was £10 and does :-) something like http://192.168.1.1

Carlinkit 5 mini seems to be popular. I have a Quadlock but bought the Carlinkit for my sister, they both do the trick.

Carlinkit can be bought cheaply from Ali express I believe.

To add to your story though, it is best to not have your phone connect to the car’s Bluetooth if you’re using a wireless CarPlay dongle, just let CarPlay handle everything. (Provided your dongle works of course)

Edit;

I bought mine from AliExpress too, even if it doesn’t solve that problem having wireless CarPlay is amazing once you have it. As for the switch, I just keep my wireless CarPlay plugged in as from what I can tell it only works when the car is on and unlocked. The little power it uses when the car is locked isn’t even noticeable either.

Agreed I’ve had the wireless dongle in my last couple of cars so much easier than plugging your phone in every time
