Strange sound like metal on ground

I am getting a very intermittent sound from my car which sounds like metal rubbing along the road (sounds like an exhaust pipe scraping the road). I have had a look under the car but cannot see anything. It happens on flat road and cannot relate to steering wheel direction. Anyone experienced anything like this, guess it is a trip to the dealer?

Has the car been left a while ? I suspect rear brake pads. Solution is turn off regren and a few hard breaking and it goes.

Only been used a couple of times in the past week (been ill) but will try hard braking, that would make sense.. Thanks @leomindel

Could be a little stone that is stuck somewhere, like between brake rotor and backing plate.

I second this as the most likely cause.

Noise has not gone despite hard braking. If it is a stone I assume it will eventually work its way out?

A high speed drive will often throw a stone out.

Look for "evidence" on the inner side of the brake rotor. Not all stones will work their way out.

Stones are a nightmare on the Cyberster.

Try reversing on full lock in both directions a few times. That helped with a few of mine.
