Sun “readers” to understand how EV Owners are being ripped off.

There was another article recently, around the affordability of switching to EV and the whole comparison was based on the average EV being £55k vs an ICE at £25k

Based on their assumptions, switching to EV isn't affordable/cheaper. It was a rather unrealistic comparison.

It seems by them bundling in a "2.3 kW" in their statement about cables up to 22 kW they are including Granny Chargers and 3-phase Cables in the same breath so well is their article researched.

They also seem to think that in the UK 3 Phase home charging is commonplace which it definitely not and workplace charging for employee's cars is more commonly single-phase since few UK speck cars have 3-phase capability, although workplace 3-phase maybe provided where a fleet of vans and commercial vehicles need charging.

There is one paragraph I found amusing given the level of misinformation and misappraisal of the facts, such that they are. I've copied and pasted it below directly from the article in it's entirety ...

"This creates confusion for customers trying to work out whether an EV could be suitable for their needs."

Yes this article certainly does "create confusion"

There's a move to encourage 3 phase into private homes to spread the load more evenly. For example on "our" transformer we are the only house with EVs etc, so our neighbours load overnight is dwarfed by ours potentially floating the Neutral considerably. If we had 3 phase we'd balance ourselves, but as they currently want £20k+ to provide it that hasn't happened. Next year the cost is likely to come down considerably as the requirements are expected to change.
Management cars (Tesla, big Audi, BMWs, and Jags) often have 3 phase so there's a push for 3 phase for faster charging as well as phase correction at a lot of workplaces.

Just to note; even if you had 3-phase on a UK house the MG ZS would only charge at 7kw anyway...

From a very quick browse you'll struggle to find many EVs that support more than 11kw AC, other than the Zoe.

That makes sense and then perhaps MG will supply cars in the UK at least with 11 kW 3 Phase as they do in mainland Europe

ZS EV in Europe Mainland is 3 Phase it wouldn't be nice to have some consistency of specs and then when DC Rapid chargers are occupied there would be a higher speed AC charging option as Rapid with both often and charge CCSA and AC at the same time I believe.

Beware what you wish for. Some Stelantis cars have 3 phase 11kW but only charge at 3.6kW on single phase. So great when abroad but a major downer in the UK.
