Last time I was at the MG dealership they told me software updates have to be done by them - do you happen to know if that's true or should they happen over the air?

Apparently the Entertainment System is the only part of the software systems on the car that supports OTA updates. However, if MG is anything like Jaguar when they released the iPace with OTA updates, it might be a couple of years before they get their act together on it.

I wonder if there is a way of determining what versions of software are present in our cars?

There is, but you need the MG diagnostic computer they have at the service centres.

You can also use the latest version of the unofficial Thai app and a Bluetooth or Wifi OBD2 dongle.
