tesla superchargers scotch corner

Saw a video on YouTube today. Someone had bought a Tesla and also bought a CCS Combo 2 Adaptor which you plug any CCS charger into to allow the Tesla to charge on any CCS charger. Pity there wasn't something that worked the other way around (allowing non-Teslas to charge at Tesla chargers by use of an adaptor). Seems Tesla's have the best of both worlds! Tarnations! :) View attachment 2140
That’s for older cars isn’t it which didn’t come with CCS so needed an adaptor. I don’t know if the Model S/X have been updated but the Model 3 definitely has CCS.

Superchargers have both CCS and the older Tesla connector.

They also need a hardware module upgrade as well to upgrade the socket to support the adapter if the car was made before May 2019. After May 19, just a €170 adapter is needed (based on 2019 price, maybe more or less).

I know what you mean but Tesla are very particular about this. They have been known to block off certain cars from their network particularly ones that have been write offs but have been somehow resurrected. Their rational is that they can’t vouch for the safety of the batteries in case they catch fire. Bad PR. The more cynical would think that they are more totalitarian.

VHS AND BETAMAX ... it will sort itself out eventually ... but needs pressure from govt whose responsibility is transition to net zero ........ whats the hope ? no hope and Bob Hope

CCS seems to have won the battle of the connector types in UK/Europe.

Or were you referring to whether Tesla should open up their privately paid for network to everyone ? Why would they want to give away their great advantage unless it was for profit ?

Maybe you were referring to the Govt nationalising ALL charging networks, not just Tesla ?

Pretty much everywhere outside of Japan and soon even there. Chademo is a good system but Japanese rules make it way too expensive. Every single chademo connector has to go through quality control testing in Japan before it's allowed to be sold. This means it's far too expensive to make elsewhere (then send the connector to Japan for testing, get it back and sell it)
CCS was the rest of the world's answer, it's not as robust by a long way but it's a lot cheaper.

I haven't seen the YouTube video you refer to but the Tesla would've been a Model S or X with the (modified) Type 2 connector on the car.
