I will pick my PHEV up in 2 weeks and have a couple of queries.

I see there is a routine for charging or it doesn't start charging.
Is there an idiots guide to this I can print or memorise until it becomes second nature? Until we have a charger fitted it will be via the plug.

I am looking at the Hive deal that regulates the EV charging over night, will it work with this if there is a sequence to follow?

I note that there is a software update that needs doing, is there a quick menu check I can do before driving away from the dealer. I'd ideally like to draw the dealer's attention to it before I drive off the forecourt.

Many thanks in advance.

Charging is easy. Yes it will become second nature.
0. As a prerequisite, it's best to install the MG iSmart app, to choose whether you want to 'schedule' your charge or not
  • The first day you get your car home, no doubt you will want to test the charging, so you can have scheduled disabled
  • However, as soon as you have bought an EV tariff (cheap overnight electricity) you will no doubt want to enable 'Scheduled' charging, for your cheap rate hours (e.g. 12am to 5am)
1. Press electric filler outer cap (passenger's side) to open it
2. Pull inner filler cap out
  • At this point I lie it gently next to the paintwork of the car, so it does not mark the paint
3. Take the cap off your 'granny charger' and put it into the car socket
4. Optional: At this point, I move the inner car's filler cap from next to the paintwork, to underneath the granny charger connector (it fits snugly there using my granny charger)
  • This is just so that the cap does not bang against my car overnight, in the wind
5. Plug your granny charger into the mains socket (if you have not already done so beforehand)
6. After about 3 or 4 seconds, you will hear a motor 'whizz' to show that the car had 'gripped' the granny charger socket
  • Depending on circumstances (e.g. if your charger is not powered) it may ungrip it a few seconds later.
7. Lock the car's door
  • a few seconds later, the car will 'grip' the charger socket again (so you cannot unplug it)
8. At this point, either it will start charging, or it will wait to charge (e.g. overnight) as per your schedule
9. When you are finished, just unlock the car, and pull the charger out, and put the car's inner filler cap back on, and close the outer cap.

Software version is easy to check:
1. Switch on car
2. Swipe left to bring up all the icons
3. Click 'Settings'
4. Click "System" (on the right hand side)
5. Look at "Entertainment System Version"
However, I would strongly recommend you ask your salesperson to check it in advance of you picking it up, because I believe that it is not something that they can do a 'quick fix' on the day of your collection. Make them check it a few days before, as part of their prep cycle.

It would be nice to hear what you think of the car after you have had it for a few weeks.

Many thanks for this.

Currently, the sales person is on leave until the day I collect my car, so I will have to contact someone else at the Dealer.

I will keep this page handy for reference.

Counting down the days until I can collect.

Hi folks, this thread is a good idea. I have an HS Trophy PHEV. Unfortunately, I had a bit of an accident with a hedge, so I needed to repair the front driver's side. I am with One Call, so the car went to The garage. It's been there for two months, and getting parts has been difficult. When everything was finished, they discovered it needed a pedestrian speaker! I'm furious. Can anyone recommend an insurance company where I can use MG garages for repair? Is that a good idea? Thanks
