As promised the initial outward bound journey was a success in my book, given all the negative press recently due to the excessive cold weather in the UK.
Left this morning at 5.30 with recorded temperature of 6 degrees
Fully charged with a GOM range of 170 miles in ECO with heating on (heating on 3rd setting) without heating or fans range was predicted 200 miles in ECO.
My TPS were set at 35psi when cold and went to 38psi on trip
Both trip counters were reset to zero for this test.
Total journey miles were 113.6 with an estimated 3.2 miles per KWh, driving conditions were very poor with pouring rain.
I drove at a steady average of 65 mph on the motorway way and my total journey average was 51 mph and arrived with 25 miles remaining and therefore in these conditions I believe this was success and will hopefully put peoples range fears to bed; and this will only improve as the temperature increases.

Thanks for that. Is that with the latest update?

I have a planned trip from South Wales to Surrey when the lockdown is finished. My preferred charge point is 129 miles away, and I am a bit worried about making that distance on the motorway in winter. Your post gives me a bit more confidence..:)

Brilliant. Looking forward to the return journey details. Thank you Mark.
The return journey will be via Berkshire and Watford, but as I have stops to make along the route I will keep the trip journey log going where we can see the average overall miles per KWh against the total miles covered, as I will need to charge, but I really wanted to demonstrate the difference the temperature makes and this sudden increase from -2 to 0 degrees to 6 to 8 makes a massive difference in range, but let’s not forget it was also tipping it down too.
I would also like to remind people to check the tyre pressures as these to drop with the temperature and therefore add more rolling resistance if not correctly inflated. Same note the PSI changes from one driver to a fully loaded car...

Mark. Do you find the ride is on the harsh side with tyre pressures at 38psi? Mine are a bit lower than that (2.2bar) which I find very comfortable and am loathe to increase unless it is going to make a big difference in range.

No not at all they are meant to be about 33psi cold where mine are about 35psi cold which when heated increases to about 38psi, if the car is fully loaded they should be 42psi cold!!

Thanks for that Mark.

It looks like our car is not performing like yours :(

Wife left at 6:45 this morning about 6c, raining, didn't go mainly motorway route today.
Been left on granny charge since yesterday, MG badge not lit etc so fully charged.
Volts showed 448. Trips reset, E+Gen3, GOM 179miles.
When got to work:
52.2miles / 40mph / 1h18m / 3.0mpkWh = 17.4kWh used
403volts. GOM 93miles
Wife said she only put the heating on occasionally as was too scared!
Hmm, GOM remaining 93 @ 3.0mpkwh = 31kWh. Plus used 17.4kWh totals 48.4kWh LOL!!!!!!

I believe if the trips are reset, our GOMs should be using the same figures for calculations.
At full charge: Yours showed 200miles vs ours 179miles. You have 454volts vs ours 448volts.
Could those 7volts make the 21miles difference???
Supposedly the new BMS software has adjusted the max and min voltages to see the same range, so the BMS calculation should be consistent- right???

Your figures show 113.6miles at 3.2kWh = 35.5kWh used. With 25mile left at 3.2kWh = 7.8kWh. Gives you a total usable battery of 43.3kWh.

I don't know what to think anymore!!
Obviously driving style makes a difference. I did go out with my wife yesterday for a 30min lesson on how to drive economically, so I can but assume she was doing so today.

Any ideas / thoughts????
Thanks

I don't know what tyre pressures we have.

Thanks, Mark. These figures are very impressive-makes me think Saturday was totally a totally unrealistic first drive which doesn't demonstrate the car well as temperatures were so low.

Can I just ask, why did the range on the GOM change between photo 3 and 4? Doesn't look like you've moved at all.

Looks like the heater off=200 heater on=170 according to Marks description.

I know it is a bit warmer today but will be interested to see what charge speeds you get on a rapid charger Mark. I'm trying to work out whether or not the BMS update has made any difference. (I know you haven't had the update yet).

Not home yet..charging at Tesco, so far my total mileage (Accumulated total) so far today is 224.9 with an overall average of 3.5 miles per KWh. See photo.
But my last leg (Current journey) before this stop was 46.4 miles with an average 4.0 miles per KWh, but I was warm and I turn the heating and fans off as they were not needed.
Not home yet another 40 miles to go when I’m happy I’ve got enough juice...

Quick update, got a photo now of our cold tyre pressures (not touched them since picked the car up almost 2 weeks ago).
33.6 fronts, 32.4 rears.

Think I should put some air in to 35psi?
Think it's make much difference?
