Updated MG iSmart iPhone app

MG provided an update to the MG iSmart app yesterday, now 3.1.3. Has anyone noticed any improvements?

Looks like nothing has changed capability-wise.

updated My app today. massively reports increased the range, I only charge to 80% it’s been 150 / 160 miles recently (due to temperature I believe) but after update its showing between 239 / 243 @ 80% changes each time I open the app. (now 241)

Just looked at the app again. for the reported mileage, the default has changed to metric km. changed it back to miles. back to normal.

First impressions are that some bugs have been fixed. Charge management is working for me now and I can change charge settings and turn on battery heating first time.

yes, it no longer works. Seems to think there is a vpn operating (no, wrong, SAIC) so won't stay open. Another improperly V&V'd software change. Muppets.

It seems to depend on the country/region. Here in the Netherlands, we haven't gone beyond version 3.0.3 yet. So we're clearly a bit behind here (no jokes ).
MG SAIC might struggle with Dutch, which isn't easy either .

In Denmark we have 3.1.3 (and Danish it not that easy either ). However, the app is still on par with the one I had for my VW Golf GTE 6-7 years ago. It's horrible - especially the response times. Tesla and Xpeng are so much better. Funny example - in Danish it says Glemt instead of Gemt, if you start the aircondition via the App. Glemt means forgotten (and not Saved like Gemt) :-D

To me this version is almost totally useless because it bring up the error message "Sorry the MG iSmart app prohibits VPN". I now have to turn off VPN just to use iSmart, then re-enable it for all my other apps. I'm seriously thinking about deleting the app altogether!

I was quite happy with the earlier version 2.xx as I could do the remote things like seat heating and defrosting etc, although it had its bugs and things that didn’t work like Find Car.

Here's my conspiracy theory; Its all part of the Chinese government's way of grabbing our personal information and spying on us

It wants to know everything on my phone including my city, state, post code, GPS co-ordinates, and even my gender. Non of which is relevant to me remotely warming the car seats before I get in on a frosty morning!

I noticed a problem with ismart earlier this month, i get a msg 'sorry, the ismart app prohibits VPN'. I don't have a VPN and the app was working fine beforehand. Maybe the update has caused this? It is now useless

Maybe you should distinguish between the iOS and the Android app. I use the iOS v3.1.3, and it works fine with VPN. Well, as fine as the iSmart app works, which means not very. The response times are terrible and activating the heater especially now in Winter, is a gamble.

Here in the Netherlands, the app version still doesn't go beyond 3.03. This is probably related to the translation of the original app. Dutch is still a difficult language.
My biggest problem, and also my biggest annoyance, is that I can only preheat the car once for 10 minutes. That's not enough. Turning on the air conditioning/heating a second time prompts a message that I'm trying too frequently.

v3.1.3 doesn't change that. Usually, after 10 minutes, my car is quite warm (15-17 °C). Also, re-starting it works fine most of the time. The connection between app and car is just not very reliable.

I had the same experience on a cold Monday morning in Denmark. Had to buy a 'de-icer' and spray around the windows along the edges. That worked and I could then get into my car and 'turn on' the engine. Then the app worked again. I have been very careful not 'overloading' the app with commands other than starting the heating. I carry the 'de-icer' with me every day
