I have a Jan '24 ZS EV Trophy Connect SR (bought July '24 as ex-demo).
I'm thinking of trading it in for a MGS5 Trophy LR.
The ZSEV is a car that I constantly have to think, "Well, it was cheap" to stop me getting annoyed. The entertainment software was clearly written by an 18yo intern who has never driven a car. I've turned off all the auto 'features' because they either don't work properly (eg auto high beam which goes around blinding everyone) or are downright dangerous ('lane-assist' which constantly catapults you between the centre line and edge on narrow roads). Yes, yes, I wasn't expecting a Tesla build and well, it was cheap. I don't want to spend a lot on a car because I don't use it much and don't care much about the brand or looks, but I do need one which fits the bike in the back and is cheap to buy and run, but there are limits.
But anyway, my local dealer is doing a good deal at the moment on a new S5 so I wanted to know if it is a good upgrade or the same thing with a facelift and lipstick. It does look nicer, but for those who have changed from ZSEV to MGS5 is there much positive difference in daily use?
Reading the forums there seems to the a lot of 'boings' which you can't turn off, which sound really annoying. I just want a car which is quiet and works. Oh, and cheap.
Thanks for any insight.

Read through the various posts here should give you a good idea of what to expect.

There are a lot of mandatory alerts, all of which can be turned off at various places (as far as i know). You have a shortcut to your profile in which you can store most of your settings, this has to be enabled every time you start the car.

As for your other points, from what ive read (and experienced myself)
Auto headlights still suck.
Lane change is better.
Auto speed limiter is so-so.
Cruise control works nicely 99.9% of the time (ive had 3 phantom braking incidents)
Battery capacity good.
Power usage very good.
Overall quality good (so far, its a cheap car, im expecting issues to arise).
Android Auto usually works, but its spotty, not necessarily a problem with the car itself.

Probably other stuff, but as i said, read through the various posts here and you will find a lot of info :)

After owning both models of the ZS EV and now moved to the S5 I can assure you that it is a big step l up from the ZS EV.
This is very apparent after only driving the car for about 1 hour.
Is it perfect ? - Is there a perfect car out there🤷🏻.
And in all fairness to the ZS EV, it was MG’s first attempt, to bring a full EV to the U.K. market, at a very reasonable price point.
The car was primarily intended to be a ICE model, that they then electrified.
The design was ready for an update by now anyway.
The S5 was designed from the ground up to be a EV so you expect it to be better and it is.
You need a test drive for about 1 hour and you will see for yourself 👍.
