What is "Kers"?

Hi,
what does this small, coloured icon mean (13)? In the German manual, it is referred to as "kers" and for further information, you are supposed to look in the chapter "starting and driving". But there is no such chapter.

This is the level of regeneration braking, 1 is light and 2 is heavy retardation.
