Why you should invest in a 7kW EVSE

If a 13A plug is going to melt using a granny charger, then I'd be concerned with using any socket in the house with a 3 kW heater. It seems that if the house electrics are faulty, a granny charger will expose them. It's not a problem with the charger.

This socket was used for a heater not on constantly as it cuts out when the temperature is reached.

That's a modern MK socket which should easily cope with a heater (ours do). I'm not a qualified electrician (although I've rewired two houses) so I won't comment further.

The plug caused that, not the socket. Probably a slightly loose termination in the plug, or the fuse holder wasn't tight.

The charred area is on the neutral side, so probably a loose terminal.
Are you sure? Almost every 3-pin plug I've seen has the fuse holder on the right side as you look at the pins of the plug. That would put the fuse holder where the burn mark is on the socket faceplate. 🤷‍♂️

Scratch that - I'm thinking of the plug with the cover off. 🤦‍♂️
