Winter tyres for MG4 Trophy

I have been offered a set of winter tyres which are 225/45 r17 and the tyres on the Trophy are 215/50 r17, so my question is, will these tyres fit?

So you might not get a reputable tyre shop to fit them.

If they come with rims already you could do it, although a different size tyre will probably work better

215-55-17 would be much better choice if you can't find original dimension. Trophy has 235-45-18 and that is bigger (and wider) tire then 215-50-17. For winter narrow tire are better.
225-45-17 is not a good choice imo.

I don't think that goes here in the UK & Europe as nearly every new VW Golf with 18" alloys are 7.5J with 225mm or even wider widths ?

Huh, now that I have another google it is indeed showing up as 225 being the widest tyre allowed on a 7” rim… good pick up!

My trophy currently has Continental Premium Contact C's 215/50 r17 95.

I'm sliding all about in the tiniest bit of snow. I did a search on the Kwik fit site and they say only 1 type (the type I have a summer tire) fits my EV. Surely the guy is wrong? Surely it's not just certain tyres for ev's as long are they're heavy loads bearing?

The tyre does not have to be EV tagged.
Correct size and Load Index is all you need.

Their system probably only shows the OE fitment tyres, which is what the tyre manufacturers hope for.

I’ve said this before in another thread about tyres, but basically OEM tyres get sold to the car makers at a massive discount, then the price (generally speaking of course) gets bumped up on the retail side, hoping you go to kwik fit and say “I’ll have whatever is on the car now” or whatever their system shows you, and so they make good on their initial discount to the car manufacturer.

It always pays to look around, even if you really like the performance of your original tyres it could still pay to look at other patterns by the same manufacturer.

Some car makers choose performance tyres for their standard fitment, or a very common size, and then these tactics don’t really happen as much, but if a tyre manufacturer opens up a new line specifically for a car then you can expect to pay a lot for standard fitment tyres.
