I have now had a towbar fitted to my Touring/Lux. I was impressed with the Witter kit – at £650 I’m glad I was. During the fitting I was impressed also with the way the fitter took off the interior and exterior trim and bumper = so I took some photos. Hopefully they might help anyone who needs to work on their car.
If the photos don't work I can provide a Dropbox link if needed.

Surprised how much they had to remove at the back to fit it! Did you get a software update and if so any idea what it does?

I didn't get the software update for 2 reasons. The first was that I imagined that an 'ordinary' tow bar fitter would not be familiar with the requirements for this new model. I think that anxiety was misplaced as the fitter told me he had to do lots of software updates on modern cars. I asked what the update did but i didn't get much of an answer.
The second reason I chose not to have the update is because of the on going problems MG/the dealer is having sorting out the software on my car. It seems to involve lots of rebuilding and reinstalls and i didnt want them to install new software and then it was overwritten. My car goes in again on Monday for another attempt. It has spent more than 20 percent of its time in the garage. My feeling is that this is a hardware issue.

Where is the electric socket? Did you go 7 or 13 pin...don't suppose it has both?

when the electrics have been fitted for the towbar, codes will be appear on your dash which need to be cleared by coding the vehicle, the coding integrates the electrics with the vehicle electrics so when towing necessary adjustments for braking etc.
Is the answer I got from Bev at Witter about software updates. Not entirely clear still but don't suppose you're noticing codes on the dash (presumably when something is plugged into the towbar socket?

The electric socket swivels up behind the rear bumper valance when not in use. I went 7 pin but I see in the documentation for the electrics that it is possible to plug a 13 pin adaptor into the 7 pin socket.
I can't answer your question about the dashboard lights as I haven't plugged anything into the electrics yet. That test will have to wait until I get the car back from the garage.
Bev gave me the C&C Club discount retrospectively so she is a good egg in my book.
Would you like to see a copy of the fitting instructions for the electrics and tow bar?

Collected my ZS Trophy LR today - Witter not quoting a towbar..Was there a part number for the one you had fitted?
