Well it's been a month and a half. What do I think? I'm very happy with the car. It's become that we are comfortable with each other, as one. I've tried the regen modes, they're fine, but I prefer regen 1 as it suits my every day style. So there may not be much more for me to post. Thank you all for listening and inputs.

Everybody is different and I like the fact that owners can pick and choose a different regen strength to suit themselves .
Using the lower strength regen does mean that you are not regaining the most amount of energy of course, but it does have the advantage that the under worked foot brakes at higher levels, do get a chance to keep the dreaded rust at bay !.

I was new to leccy cars when I got mine in June, so very limited experience, but I have yet to understand what's not to like about OPD?

Well its the opposite of my driving style. For instance, traffic light turns red in the distance my aim is to foot off gas and coast getting there as light changes to green. With say level 3 regen foot off gas gives immediate fairly heavy breaking. So it just does fit my style. Also at 8p a kWh I don't need to save the electric.

Have to admit that OPD is a great tool as is the level 1, 2 or 3 regen braking for different circumstances. Just loving there are so many options to select what you want to do. I am like a kid in a sweet shop

I've been thinking about this and wonder if all these regen levels actually make any difference.

If you use the brake pedal it will use as much regen as it can and the brake pads when needed, so I'm wondering if there is any difference between backing off the accelerator on level 3 compared with level 1 and using the brake pedal.

Long greasy fast bend, sudden hazard, instinctively lift off, Regen 3 kicks in on the back wheels (only). Back end breaks grip . Or? Would we have been safer with level 1 retardation and ABS breaking ! I'm assuming Regen breaking system is only on the rear wheels.

Good question. The regen is only on the back wheels as the car uses the traction motor for that purpose. Retardation 1 and ABS would give you more braking control but in the situation you describe I doubt it would make a lot of difference to the outcome for most drivers.

Just love how folk, have totally different opinions. How boring would it be if we all
agreed on everything. Me personally i like the regen on level 3, but rarely use OPD.
But each to their own.

Maybe if you just had regen but you also have all the traction control systems that monitor for wheels losing grip

I am driving a Volvo XC40 at the moment. There is no adjustment on Regen. I am also not a friend of OPD because of muscle memory. My question does the Regen setting have an impact on breaking if I am not in OPD mode driving MGS5?

Oh thats a very good point, I have no idea. Unless I'm in a nice snowy car park having a drift I'm probably not going to find out, well hopefully not!

I'll leave the level 3 regen guys to answer properly but I think as I was braking the level 3 backed off. The auto regen setting A is interesting as it adjusts the regen according to the traffic. But as i prefer predictability its not my personal favourite either. If I was desperate for range I'd use the level 3 but as I'm not the very light level 1 suits me fine. Its easily altered via one press for each alteration on the steering wheel so if you change your mind on the move two presses can take you from 1 to 3. Hope this is useful.

I'm using OPD and I'm coasting when I want just by gently touch the gas pedal. So that it shows 0% or even -.
And when I want a sharp brake I just lift the foot.
I'm more of a last second brake guy.

You're right, but means I've got to change/practice until its a natural muscle memory, not beyond me but frankly I can't be bothered. I'm writing this as a friendly, warm and humourous reply just in case it comes across in a bad sounding way. That can often be the way with plain texts.
