MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

I'm still waiting on my vanarama lease ordered Nov. They said (2 weeks ago on the phone) that none of their 400 orders have been fulfilled.

That's not a real estimate. As has been said multiple times on this thread, the only official line from MG themselves is 'TBA', everything else from lease companies and dealers is just a guess based on nothing unless they've been told YOUR car is built.
The car has been built, now waiting to go on a ship.

I have an SE Long Range coming from Elmo Drive on Monday. This is to tide me over until my lease one arrives. Knowing my luck my lease one will appear suddenly next week too!

It could have already been built and is in some car park in China waiting 3 months to be loaded onto a ship.

It just adds to the poor incompetence levels I already hold for the company. How can a company manufacture cars and let them sit for 3 months when demand is so high? Surely SAIC would want to turn that car into money - cars sat in a car park for 3 months just makes no sense.

Nothing surprises me about SAIC Motors anymore. At least we know what it stands for now. Stupid And Incompetent Company.
I saw the new BBC drama on Sunday and as soon as I saw the name on the back of the van SAIC Motors I just knew it had to be dodgy.

That assumes they are sitting in a car park complete. It is my understanding they are building them but they are missing a few parts that are added when they become available. So it may be that the build date is not the completion date.

This is what seems a bit murky...when the build date is actually given. Then there are those already built where is not clear how long they are sitting about due to the competition for shipping slots.

I doubt that.

I think that it has sat around for months waiting for the DAB chip etc. Now it is sitting again built waiting to go on a ship. Spaces on ships seem to be competitive these days…

According to the news there are thousands of Teslas sitting in Shanghai waiting for shipment, making up about 50% of new car shipments - so it's quite possible that MG and others are also waiting in the car park whether for parts to complete then ship or otherwise.

"
Tesla only exported 60 vehicles in March and 968 in June, which can be attributed to the company's traditional end-of-quarter rush to satisfy domestic demand in China. The factory delivered 65,754 vehicles in China in March and a record 78,906 in June.
Basically, the bulk of Tesla's H1 2022 exports were shipped during three months: January (40,499), February (33,315) and May (22,340).

As a Newby to the MG Forum, can anyone say what the typical wait time is at the moment ???
Last update I received from MG stated 8-9 months from order date. In reality I wouldn't be surprised if it were longer than that - there are still people waiting since November that don't have a delivery date.

In a normal manufacture the build does not start until all parts are available. The last update for my car from MG UK is TBA -
we can confirm your order is currently on shortage awaiting factory build, until production has been confirmed, we cannot confirm an exact arrival date.

To skip parts of the production line is not good because it adds risk to poor quality and missing important checks. The production line is set up to be able to build a car repeatedly with checks all the way to ensure the quality is upheld whilst keeping the costs low. The production line will have assemblies delivered just in time and rely upon having all surrounding assemblies complete.

To part build would add considerable cost and question any profitability?

But as many people have previously said about MG UK and SAIC - nothing would surprise me.

My car might arrive this week - definitely doubt that though🤔

After all the stories we have heard over the last few months, anything could happen.

I also I have to remember to take some posts with a pinch of salt, suspect a number could have been dealers trying to win favour?

Members with very low posts telling us how quickly they got delivery and the dealer was brilliant.

It happening with many car manufacturers at present. They are part building and storing until parts are available. Some manufacturers are delivering cars (Tesla and Jaguar for instance), with components missing for them to be fitted later once the owner has the car.

The parts missing must be very minor and not affect the ability to drive - how would you deliver the car to the dealer part built - loading on and off ship for instance.

I know a number of people at work with Teslas and a number of them have reported poor build quality. One had the indicator stalk fall off and was hanging down by wires on day one after delivery. Maybe part build is the reason?

I suppose that if they are shipping cars without components they cannot do the final checks where they plug the car into a test bed that performs a full check. Therefore testing is incomplete and the dealer will not have the test bed and therefore cars get handed over to the user with faults.
