MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

The Vanarama contract I signed allows Vanarama to increase the price of the monthly payments before i take delivery of the car if their costs have increased. Once I take delivery and start paying, that is the point at which they would not be able to increase the price. I am of course allowed to cancel the contract if this happens before i take delivery, but like eveyone else who oredered with them, i already have the wall charger installed, so would need to pay for this. I wouldnt be eligible for the grant so would have to pay the full price of the installation. I'm going to find out today how much I would owe.

so i dont buy the posts about Vanarama wanting me to cancel because they'd get more money if I did. They are within their rights to up the price if their costs have increased, but they haven't (yet). This is my biggest concern. I've waited 8 months already, another 8 months on the current estimate before it arrives. It would be better for then to get me on a different deal so they can shift the stock they have and re-allocate my car to someone else, but cancelling isn't really in their interests or mine.View attachment 10049
Just read your contract clause. I am no legal guru but how I read this is - If MG UK increase the price (which I have not heard anybody being charged more because of MG UK - only dealers not doing grant properly) then they can increase. They would need to prove this and show how MG UK increased the cost.

It would be interesting to understand how you stand if you cancel or if they cancel? I think if they cancel you walk away without paying anything. If you cancel then they can claim back the cost of the charging point and maybe some expenses costs?

If MG UK increase the cost and then you are not happy it states that they will terminate the contract - again if they terminate you pay nothing.

It would be good to get a view from an expert in contract law or consumer rights. Maybe get onto money saving expert forum and ask the question?

Just had the dreaded phone call from Vanarama..😞 Ordered November last year. In February was given a delivery date of April 7th. Charge Point installed March 4th. March 11th informed that vehicle would not arrive in April and the date was now likely to be September. This morning they say March / April 2023! Not happy and told them so in no uncertain terms..😡
Offered me an available alternative vehicle but £1k more initial payment and £150 per month more instalments.
Again confirmed if I cancel the order I will be liable for the cost of the charge point.
Now considering options….🤔🤔🤔

Morning all, as per the January order issue, I ordered my car on the 19th December and thought that was the date it went in, when I spoke to the MD for the dealership and he had a look, it said late January, which I queried? He said it was placed on order in December and the January date was MG confirming the order, which I guess maybe true as it seems other people have been told they have a late January date order as well?
I ordered our car on 6th January with my local dealer. A couple of months ago I got my MG UK order number from my dealer and asked for an update for delivery.

Without telling them any dates MG UK confirmed the order date was indeed 6th January.

They also gave me the Cut and paste answers saying that for a January order they would expect a 8 or 9 month delivery…..

The interesting bit is that MG UK did confirm the order date and expected delivery.

Have had second thoughts about the Vanarama orders being checked. The cars will not be owned by the people leasing and therefore MG UK may not be able to disclose the information to anyone other than Vanarama.
It would have been really good to see if cars had already been supplied or when orders were placed though.

Spoke to Vanarama this morning - same deal.

November 2021 order but car now not due to be built until at least January 2023 which they say means a March/April delivery.

Asked if there was any chance it might turn up before Christmas but they seemed pretty certain that the build wouldn't be until after Christmas now.

I asked who the supplying dealer was. "We don't know that unfortunately".

Lady I spoke to said this was the information they were getting direct from MG rather than a dealer.

Made absolutely no sense (how can they not know which dealer they've ordered the car from!!!) so going to try and find somebody higher up in the company to explain what's going on.

Might be time for a review on Trustpilot too because I'm really not buying this all being MG's issue now given what we've seen from other dealers and this is the second time they've pushed the delivery back by several months only a month or so from their stated delivery date.

I mean the very fact they say it'll probably be built in January but then it will take 3-4 months to get to you indicates they've known for a long time we weren't getting them in September!

I just had (another) chat with Vanarama, a chap called Stuart, who was very helpful and polite. He said he was giving us the information so we could decide what to do as "tge ball was in my court". I don't see any point in getting agitated with them so I explained the ins and outs of the issue with already having the charger installed and that we all only have 3 options:
  • Vanarama cancels the order and we don't pay for the chargers.
  • we move on to other deals with Vanarama (which are much more expensive)
  • the customers cancel the order and pay £1000 for the charger.

I explained that the current deals were far too expensive and that cancelling was not an option, given the charger costs so the ball was "in Vanarama's court".
I basically dared Vanarama to cancel the order and write off the cost of the charger.

He said he was aware of the issue with customers who already had the chargers installed and that "management were looking in to this and what could be done". He said he would feedback my points to them.

It's too much to hope that they will cancel the order and write it off, but at least they are clear about the position we find ourselves in and that we have few options open to us other than to wait...

I don't want Vanarama to cancel my order even if they take the hit for the charger. It's a great deal I've got with them (even though I've been waiting since November and still no sight of delivery) and what's the alternative? Pay way more for another car and wait another 6-12 months for it?

Neither do I. I just want my car!
But it would be nice to not be trapped in this contract before it's even begun.

I just got a call yesterday from my dealer that now I am expecting mid to late November pushed back from an end of September date. Ordered the begining of March from MG Bristol North.

If you cancel the order, and go elsewhere for an EV, you'll still need a charger anyway.
So you'd have ended up shelling out ~£1k anyway. You might be a bit worse off than going elsewhere for the charger but not £1k worse off...

My zapppi cost me a grand……i am so lucky! I miss every bit of help from the government (Liz blooming Truss! Christ! I ask you??? 😂).

I think if there was some evidence of any Vanarama order being delivered I would hang on.

Can anyone on the forum say they've had a ZS ordered from Vanarama turn up though? Even going back to October last year? I'm guessing not...

The person I spoke to yesterday didn’t seem to know anything about the chargers when I asked her if I would be liable. She said she would have to send a message to the support team.

im assuming it would be the £650 that we would be liable for since they presumably got the govt grant for it

I think that if I was you I would sit and wait until Vanarama cancel the order and return any deposit plus waive the cost of the charger.

The information given by Vanarama in the recent posts makes me very suspicious.

Can Vanarama afford to cancel the orders? 400 car charge units @ £750 plus VAT = £300K off the profit margin. Can see why they are looking for customers to cancel.

Therefore, In the meantime make arrangements for an alternative car that you could keep long term in case the high likelihood that the Vanarama car never arrives.

They could afford it if they just offset the loss against the increase in payments they'd receive by re-leasing the same car I have on order now to a new customer at the current rates on their website. The increase in the upfront payment alone would cancel out the loss on the charger.

But that said. It's the same calculation for me. Even if I can exit the contract without paying back the Charger, I still wouldnt be able to find a better deal than the one I signed in November, not by a LONG way. So,I'm back in the same position I've been in for 8 months....Best to just wait

Saw the same model I have in order “in the wild” for the first time! Glad to know they actually exist 😂 roll on February! 😂
