Vanarama Issues

I wonder how long it will be before Tusker and other lease companies pull the same stunt....

£83 a month is a big out lay , we’d be cheaper with the gas guzzling cars we have .
It's also completely disproportionate to the actual increase in cost.

Even if they thought they'd loose 100% depreciation of that increase over say a 2 year lease (which they won't) £83 x 24 = £1992.

The email below from Vanarama - I asked why no one other Vanarama customers have been told about this but said he has a 400-odd list of ppl to get to:

Hi Mr XXX,

Thanks for your time today.

As discussed, MG have not been able to allocate your vehicle a build slot yet. MG have now informed us that the most realistic estimate for build dates for these vehicles is the beginning of next year, which means your vehicle is most likely to be arriving in March/April time after being built and shipped to the UK.

The reasons given by MG are due to a combination of global issues within the industry, including semi-conductor shortages and global disruption to supply chains.

This is an estimated delivery timeline at this point, we are in regular contact with MG, and as soon as we have any further updates, we will advise you. Obviously if they arrive any earlier, we will contact you straight away to organise delivery of your vehicle ASAP.

Your vehicle was eligible for the electric grant at the point of order, unfortunately the government removed the electrical vehicle grant in June, the rules applied by the government in doing this stipulate the vehicle must be delivered within 12 months from the time of application for the grant to be eligible.

Due to the delay, it is highly likely the car we have ordered will not qualify for the government grant by the time it arrives. Unfortunately, this will mean an increase in the monthly rentals. We have worked extremely hard with your finance company to ensure the price you get will be the best price possible, but it will take into account the removal of the government grant.

If you are willing to keep the order with us the monthly rental will be £xxx.xx which is an increase of £83.33

I have looked for alternatives, and even with the loss of the government grant all options are significantly more expensive.

If you are happy to proceed with the new price, please let me know as I will arrange with the funder.

I understand this isn't the news you wanted to hear, but please can you let me know how you want to proceed ASAP to avoid any further delays.

Thanks & regards,

Ben Haghi

I stand corrected then, ouch!

I remember someone saying the smallprint of their Vanarama contract allows them to alter the price if their costs increase, which I am assuming is the clause they are activating in this case. That really sucks!

Hopefully they come to an amicable agreement about the home charge point.

I havent had any similar email from Octopus yet, just that my vehicle is delayed but I am glad I took Octopus up on their £600 public chagepoint credit offer, as if it does happen to me, I will jsut be able to return that credit.

I feel for you right now! Any thoughts what you might do? (On the positive side, if there is one, if Vanarama are telling all their clients this over the next few days, I bet they have a LOAD of cancellations that might mean those who stick with them get their order sooner but being shifted to a cancellation, maybe even soon enough to still qualify for the grant)

Just had an email from the same dealer as @MistaMayka stating he has been informed by MG that as of the start of September, deliveries of over 10,000 new MGs will be docking into the UK....but (and isn't there always a but) " what cars they will be we have absolutely no idea". The dealer goes on to say that he is "confident a small handful of those cars will be for his customers".

Sorry, but I'm not so confident! As its only a relatively small dealership, and we don't know which model many of those hoped for small handful are, I'm still not realistically expecting my ZS this year.

Now that China is practicing blockading Taiwan, who I believe manufacture a lot of the chips for EVs, who knows if even that expectation is overly optimistic?

As far as I'm aware It won't be Vanarama that'll be putting the price up It'll be the finance company ( in my case Novuna) as a result of a price increase or something else in the small print
The only way a monthly payment would go down is an increase in the balloon/ FP+ opt to buy fee in the case of a PCP or a reduction in interest rate (unlikely atm) or an increase in the number of payments.

If the balloon has increased it could be that the finance co thinks that residuals/used car prices are going to remain high. However it's not always good for residuals to be high as that can lead to less equity in the car ( if you px for a new car one next time around) if supply issues are sorted over the length of the hire period.
I have a free charger being supplied by Charged EV through Vanarama in September. I'm still being told my car is due November.
I've had a look at my invoice from charged EV ( paid extra for a tethered unit) and there doesn't seem to be any small print about me paying the full cost of the charger should Vanarama fail or be late in supplying the car.
However ,there may be certain "assumptions " made.

From the free charger point of view, I may be looking at this from a pessimistic eye, but Vanarama are not cancelling any orders, they are asking customers if, as a result of the delay and additional monthly cost, the customer would like to cancel their order.

Contractually, that would then but the onus on the customer to repay any value they have received from their deal so far. The free charger isnt actually free, the cost is included in the cost of the lease and they call it free for you, so if you cancel the order, I am sure Vanarama will be expecting you to repay them any costs they have incurred as a result of installing and supplying said charger.

Because the lease contract is very unlikely to specify a guaranteed delivery date, if the customer opts to cancel the deal, then I would assume the onus would be on the customer to make the deal good.

If however out of the blue, Vanarama cancelled the contract, then the onus would be on them to suck up any losses.

What about if the customer refuses to agree on the price increase? 😂

Unfortunately, sounds like that is covered int he contract. I am not a Vanarama customer, but I am sure someone said they had found a clause stating Vanarama (or their finance company) can increase the monthly lease cost if their costs are increased. So in that case it would still be a case of customer opting to end the agreement.

Hi All.

I have just received a call from Vanarama regarding my LR ZS EV Trophy ordered with them on Nov 21. Firstly new estimated build slot is Jan 23 with delivery Mar/Apr 23, but they also told me that my lease amount will increase as the UK government grant won't be eligible as the build slot is only 2023, even though I ordered with them on Nov 21. Is this right or do I need to push back?
Strange.
When they rang me, on Monday, they assured me the grant and price was still assured.
In fact the only thing the adviser warned me about was that the free insurance I'm getting with the deal might need me to re-apply when it's eventually delivered.

Had the same call also from Vanarama. Sounds like the deal was too good to be true basically.

Sounds like Vanarama are stitching a lot of people up.
I wonder what the other lease companies, particularly the Salary sacrifice ones like Tusker and Zenith will do once the 12 month period Vanarama refer to looms.

The protections seem greater on the Salary sacrifice scheme, but there's a limit where they can't actually make a loss...

Hi, beowulf.

I have just got the same call but have been told my lease amounts need to go up due to me not qualifying for the UK Grant, I ordered with them in Nov 21.
Hi all; I had the call pushing my November 21 order for a ZS LR back to March/April 2023 the other day. Having given it some thought I decided enough was enough so I sent an email cancelling my order which they have acknowledged but I’ve had no further contact so far. I went to my local dealership who had a cancelled order MG5 Exclusive available in the showroom so I’ll pick that up on Tuesday.
By the way, Vanarama told me previously that the dealership they had ordered through was Greenhaus of Shrewsbury who appear to be a used car dealer, not an MG dealership.

Delay in delivery & price increase due to losing out on the grant?

I think we need to light up TrustPilot!!!!
I have just done so and would urge everyone else to do so. We have been terribly messed around by Vanarama. Only takes 2 mins to leave a review

Surely it's not vanaramas fault if there not getting stock from MG your anger needs to be redirected to MG?
