Byd Atto 3

No I have to correct/ update that fallacy. Not all Allegos had the earlier model “square” steering wheel. Our 1500 cc estate car had the circular unit, the five speed gearbox and the obligatory factory ignored tin worm. I did like the car though and the 1750cc twin carb version of the Maxi we replaced it with. The dark green Maxi couldn’t mask the worm as well as the deep brown Allegro though 😜
Not really a fallacy though, my neighbour had one and as you say, the earlier models did have the square steering wheel. Launched in 1973 Allegro models featured a quartic steering wheel, which was rectangular with rounded sides. The quartic wheel did not take off, and was dropped in 1974 ..............and now lives on in the MG4. :D

My Father had a quartic steering wheel on one of his Rover SD1. The large central impact absorbing pad (before the days of airbags) used to fall of regularly.....

I hear the Atto 3 is coming to the UK before the end of the year. In Australia its priced below the zs ev, but here surprise surprise, its not going to be a budget car, est starting price £38000. Another company ripping us British off. I have stated before budget priced cars are budget every where but the uk.

Does your theory apply to the MG4?

Consider the upcoming Toyota bz3; you’d get something resembling an actual car meanwhile with the advantage of the BYD blade battery pack.

Have you accounted for (not an exhaustive list) exchange rate, shipping costs, regulatory costs and tax?

At that price they can keep it in the garage Shippo, won't consider it :-(

Both the Atto 3 and ZS EV are around $45-$48k (on road) before the rebate.

So both cars, before rebate, are ~ £26,500 in Australia. Why with all the extra tax etc is one £32k and the other £38k in the UK?

I'm with @Shippo - for a brand without established support looking to rip us off BYD can take a hike. Thank goodness MG are fairer even if we sometimes get a reduced spec.

You heard it here first !
The grant was always going to be temporary.

And in many ways it resulted in artificially increased list prices. Quite a few manufacturers somehow managed to reduce their list prices when the upper threshold was reduced.

It did it's job.... Getting people into EVs. The market will do the rest.

In NZ we were disappointed that the facelift ZS EV is only being imported with the 50kWh battery so only expecting 320 km range. Atto 3 arriving same time with the long range version too...420km. The range of the original ZS has been our only drawback. Price of ZS EV top sec and short range Atto (also 320km) are similar NZD52,999 and Govt rebate (also temp until ?) NZD8,600. Long range $57,990-rebate.
We swapped our deposit from the facelift ZS to the Atto and expect to see it befor the end of this month, Sept.

I will be watching very closely with what BYD will price the Atto 3 in the UK. If priced right, I’ll probably end up ditching my forever TBA ZS EV order and get one.

But it wouldn’t shock me if they aim for the High 30’s, after all there’s a lot of stuff that comes as standard in the Atto 3, It offers a lot more than the ZS EV so it wouldn’t surprise me if it costs more than one.

Also, BYD won’t have to worry about being the “new guy” when everyone and their dog is trying to get an EV right now.
