Two years ago the cost to charge our MGZSEV via our then energy supplier AVRO equated to 25% of the cost of petrol per gallon, based on 50 miles to the gallon as our other car, an ICE manages.
When AVRO went bust Ofgen switched us to Octopus energy and we were put on a tariff called: Flexible Avro October 2021 v1.
Yesterday at Immingham (DN401NW) petrol was £151.9 a litre.
Our MG even in the cold can do 3.4 miles to the kWh but today our electricity unit cost is "48.45p/kWh" .
Does anyone want to buy a fully serviced low mileage 2020 Exclusive?

I hope you mean £1-59.9pence a litre. That would still be 25 pence a mile cheaper for the EV. I would look for a cheaper tariff.:)

OOPS yes 151.9 pence a litre, I am just suprised that was your only reaction to the remainder of my message.

Get a ev tariff? It's madness to run a ev with out ev tariff if your charging from home I know ev tariffs are not as good as they use to be I know OVO 5p charge 24/7 is going up in January to 10p still good in today's climate and octopus are offering very competitive off-peak tariffs for like 4 hours and some longer ones can't you get that as your with octopus?

I haven't been able to find any suppliers offering any tariffs of any kind to new customers? All the comparison websites have shut down, and everyone is only offering monthly contracts at the energy cap prices. Our 5y deal ran out 30th October and I've been looking for anything similar for 3 months. What can you recommend?

even a basic variable tariff at the moment is only 33.7p per kWh... how are you being charged 48.45 unless you have a cheap off-peak rate that you could utilise like Octopus go... I charge my ZS EV Mk2 LR at home and from 20-100 it costs me about 18 quid ish, even from 0-100 would be about £23 based on usable capacity... I think you need to have a word with your supplier... especially as with my rates I can get about 500 miles for £46 quid roughly, the wife's diesel A-class gets about the same miles give or take from just over 80 quid in diesel...

EDIT: I am on EDF after my supplier went bust last year (utility point) and am on their variable tariff.

Have you found any companies offering any tariffs at all? All of the comparison websites have closed, and the suppliers I've phone directly aren't offering anything but standard rate right now. If there's a small player though I'd love to switch.
Sorry seen some replies now

Octopus will take new customers on their EV tariffs, you have to phone them though.

I didn't make a note of my price, it was the other guy who had 48p. I just noticed it was the same as the others i could find and moved on.
I'll look at octopus.

octopus go at the moment I think is about 41p during the day and 12p for 4-5 hours overnight... quite handy if you can switch things like the dishwaher, tumble dryer and waching machine to being used after midnight to take advantage of the cheap rate along with the car. but yeah, standard variable rate as per the current price cap is 33.7p. Note: I was replying to the OP, not directed at anyone in the comments specifically :)

I don't know who your suppliers is but best call them 1st see what they have to offer unfortunately comparison sites don't work anymore and you need to call all the players in the market i had a message form OVO saying all new tariffs are at cap price but still offering 24/7 charging at 5p going up January
But with OVO your limit to what brand charger you use at home like ohme

Fun disclaimer on the Octopus front page:
You need to know this 👇
Energy prices are at record highs, and most homes will be better off staying with their current energy supplier right now.

If your fixed term is coming to an end, don't choose a new tariff or switch supplier.

Instead, let your supplier automatically move you to their default tariff, so your prices are protected by the Government's Energy Price Cap.

Would you like an email when prices fall?
Then when you click that you still want a quote you get:

With global energy prices at record highs, you're unlikely to be better off by switching at this time.
If you think that's incorrect and would like a personalised quote, please call and speak to one of our experts on 08081693274 with your current energy prices to hand. Our lines are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am - 4pm on Friday.

Which is fantastic. I guess I'll ring them tomorrow, but seems like another big waste of time.

Seems like maybe just sit and wait for a change, I'm with EDF - they literally said sorry nothing we can do, when I ran, and that was their entire script. 33.7p + 40p per day.

No idea where OP got his energy from today, seems pretty illegal, given the current price caps, but no idea really of the legality of such a thing.

I did say you will need to ring them...

EDF do not do an EV tariff at present and the 33.7 IS the cheapest "normal" rate due to the government introduced cap.

I can only assume that the OP is on a dual rate tariff hence being called "flexible" and that is their peak rate with an off peak rate being much less for a few hours at night, probably just a case of bad communication during the switchover to supplier of last resort. Normally though they will import you onto a standard rate variable unless you tell them otherwise after you join.

Wow I’m still paying 19.45p/kWh on e.on next and getting my first EV car tomorrow

I have been with EDF energy for a few years now, when my last EV tariff ended, they offered me a “Go Electric 35” tariff locked in until March 24.
As the name suggests, 35 hours at an off peak rate of 4.5p / KWh and the peak rate of 39.9p / KWh.
When I signed up for this fixed rate deal, it was a real gamble, as it was expensive at the time.
Within four months, prices shot up and it turned out to be a good move.
The exit penalty was £150 per supply and we are dual fuel customers.
So a huge £300 to escape that deal !.
But at these prices, I will not be moving any time soon, I don’t think.
Octopus 🐙 should take you in as a new customer, but ONLY if you contact them by phone !.

Only good news is these crazy rates won't last forever. Unlike fossil fuels which are likely to continue to go higher over time through lack of supply or pollution taxes. Similar has happened in Australia to what you have described above.
