electricity

Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Various common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others.
The presence of either a positive or negative electric charge produces an electric field. The movement of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field.
In most applications, a force acts on a charge with a magnitude given by Coulomb's law. Electric potential is typically measured in volts.
Electricity is at the heart of many modern technologies, being used for:

Electric power where electric current is used to energise equipment;
Electronics which deals with electrical circuits that involve active electrical components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, and associated passive interconnection technologies.Electrical phenomena have been studied since antiquity, though progress in theoretical understanding remained slow until the 17th and 18th centuries. The theory of electromagnetism was developed in the 19th century, and by the end of that century electricity was being put to industrial and residential use by electrical engineers. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society, becoming a driving force for the Second Industrial Revolution. Electricity's extraordinary versatility means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. Electrical power is now the backbone of modern industrial society.

    Octopus go

Hello Any one who has a HS PHEV is it worth going over to Octopus go. I have a st up that can turn on the granny charger at 12.30am to start charging the car.no point installing a wall box.

    Circular reasoning

It goes like this. I really should get a home charger. If I get a home charger, I need a variable electricity tariff. A variable electricity tariff will make my daytime usage more expensive. The answer is to get a home battery and fill it with cheap electricity overnight. Look at your roof, if...

Hi all Hope this is in the right place We have an MG ZS EV a zappi on intelligent octopus. Lately the zappi appears to still be charging even though it’s been disconnected!!! The zappi app shows 1.3kwh coming off the grid basically into fresh air. Checking our usage we have been charged for...

Issue with AC charging/New CCU fitted (Phase One SE LR)

Edit: Originally, I thought I had an issue with my Zappi not being able to charge the car, but after testing other AC charging points (cutting out after fifteen minutes or less) and contacting the dealer, I eventually found out it was an issue with the car, namely the charge control unit, which...

    Evse efficiency question

My dno came today to try moling under my resin bound driveway to get my supply unlooped but they failed to get the mole to break out in the target trench. From what I can tell electricity northwest don't favour/allow dynamic load management as a long term permanent solution. I was going to ask...

    Do you OCPP ?

I've been reading through various ac charging posts ( as a newbie who hasn't taken delivery of his car yet ) and haven't noticed any mention of OCPP. I swapped to Octopus Intelligent from Go a few months ago and started using OCPP on my Walbox Pulsar Max / Kia Soul 30kwh. I use the cars schedule...

Car tax from 2025 and the Expensive Car threshold

Morning all, Given EVs becoming the norm (well ish... :D) its no wonder we will be paying car tax from 2025, but does anyone else think that the additional "expensive car" threshold of 40k is going to catch a few people unaware? Most EVs (bar the lovely MG) come in over 40k and by my reading...

    Update re. Looped electricity situation

I have been using my EVSE since getting my car in November 22, with the okay given by Western Power, even though my property is looped through to the next house (all detached, and not even adjacent). My neighbour, quite understandably, did not want their driveway dug up, when it was of no...

    Daylight saving confuses Easee

Noticed my Easee One charger had changed itself to start charging at 11:30pm today instead of 12:30am when my cheap rate electricity starts. The end time moved forward too I think but whilst editing that fixed it, whenever you tried to change the start to 00:30, it reverted back to 11:30pm...
