electricity

Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Various common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others.
The presence of either a positive or negative electric charge produces an electric field. The movement of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field.
In most applications, a force acts on a charge with a magnitude given by Coulomb's law. Electric potential is typically measured in volts.
Electricity is at the heart of many modern technologies, being used for:

Electric power where electric current is used to energise equipment;
Electronics which deals with electrical circuits that involve active electrical components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, and associated passive interconnection technologies.Electrical phenomena have been studied since antiquity, though progress in theoretical understanding remained slow until the 17th and 18th centuries. The theory of electromagnetism was developed in the 19th century, and by the end of that century electricity was being put to industrial and residential use by electrical engineers. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society, becoming a driving force for the Second Industrial Revolution. Electricity's extraordinary versatility means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. Electrical power is now the backbone of modern industrial society.

Painting/covering external electricity wall boxes brick pattern to match the wall?

We’ve just had a 3-phase wall box mounted on the front of our house. It’s big and white. The single phase electric and gas boxes next to it have been painted brown. I was wondering whether anyone has any resources for sourcing a brick pattern to match existing brick work so I can cover the...

Wholesale rate for electricity v Feed-In rate

Last month wholesale rates for electricity in the UK were over £2,000 per MWh = £2 per kWh but feed-in rates were nowhere near that. With more homes having solar; home storage and EVs with V2L why do we need peaker plants or massive grid transmission line expansion. Here in Thailand I get zero...

    Electricity Bill Through the Roof

Please can anyone advise I leave my ZSEV plugged onto my house car charging point does the charger stop consuming electricity when the car is charged or does it still burn electric all the time. If it does can you fit a timer to switch it off after a period of charging time.

    Shocking (cost of electricity)

Two years ago the cost to charge our MGZSEV via our then energy supplier AVRO equated to 25% of the cost of petrol per gallon, based on 50 miles to the gallon as our other car, an ICE manages. When AVRO went bust Ofgen switched us to Octopus energy and we were put on a tariff called: Flexible...

    April 2023 Electricity Prices

Hi, What do people think the cap will mean for both standard and Octopus Go rates from April 2023? The energy “cap” is rising from £2,500 to £3,000, which is a 20% rise (remember that the £66/67pm is a £400 subsidy we won’t get next year, so bills will actually rise by 43%). The cap covers...

    Running out of Electricity!

On my way home this afternoon I stopped to charge at Rugby Moto services to charge for the final 150 miles home. When I returned to the car it was at 78% with a range of 148 miles so I unlocked the car and the charging stopped 😳. Rather than restart a charge thought I would do a final top up at...

Using V2L to keep electricity bill lower

Before i start, please note that i do not currently own a ZS EV, so this is just speculation, not me trying to "cheat" So, like everywhere else, electricity prices are skyrocketing in Denmark. Electricity costs

Anyone else feeling well let down by the rising electricity tariffs in the UK. I know it's very selfish as there's a lot of people a lot worse than a retired bloke with a hybrid car but when the new price cap comes in in October it will be more expensive to charge than use petrol and by April...

Electricity Meter of Low-voltage Battery - why do I need to know this?

On the right side of the instrument pack is what I assume is a display for the 12v battery. What does the number mean? Why do I need to worry about this? Considering its prominent position I assume should I be keeping an eye on this? Does it recharge as we drive?
