Hello, I have tried using the home charger supplied as standard with the MG ZS, but as no home socket is in reach of the chargers cable I hvae been using an extension lead. The 13 amp fuse on the lead has blown on two different charging days so making overnight charging no longer a reliable option.
I am exploring having a wall mounted charging point fitted but for now have two questions :
What is occuring regarding the lead ?
and
Which, from an owners point of view, is the best home charge to buy.
Thanks.

What kind of extension lead is it, a reel? Are you fully unwinding it?

Does the fuse blow immediately or after some time?

it is not recommended that you use an extension with the granny charger. Always plug directly into a socket and make sure it is on a ring main and in good condition.

Nobody suggested “daisy chaining extension leads” or “using a multi socket extension lead not suitable for outdoor use” so I don’t know what the relevance is

Your average extension lead you buy from a discount store to power your electric drill, to then produce half a dozen holes in a piece of timber, is simply NOT good / safe enough to use to charge your car with.
Charging on a coiled up extension lead is an absolute NO NO !.
Heat will build up around the coils and could result in a fire.
I have a short extension lead for emergency use only.
The cable is 2.5mm and will carry the load from the "Granny" fine.
Even using the correct size cable for the load, you will get heat produced at the three pin plug when charging for long periods of time.
The use of correctly rated cable / socket outlet and even the three pin plug is very important.

From memory, there is a dial on the granny charger to reduce the power it draws. It's will take even longer to charge but could stop your fuse from blowing.

That’s the one I use . Never had a problem

I made my own 6 metre cable with a waterproof socket and 2.5mm Blue Flex. Also bought a plug in RCD.
My intention was to use it when at my daughters over Christmas.
Unfortunately that trip never happened.
It was not feasible to do both ways on Christmas day and with all the coffee shops closed.
