I’m 62 next month. I think this is about older experienced drivers who see the cost benefits and the future of EVs vs Youth, who are just starting out with old bangers and do them up and trade up, gradually gaining experience and responsibilities and finally the wherewithal to get into the EV culture.
For me it’s about saving money first and saving the planet second. Will never get another ICE car, as their future is limited and they cough-out CO2. The other advantage is that EVs are low down on the ‘desirable to thieve’ list - TWOC-ers look for performance cars to play ‘catch me‘ with the old Bill - not going to do that in my MG! Plus the other benefits like no cost council parking, if you live in a CPZ, low cost public parking, as councils are moving to a CO2 emissions model.
For the moment, the savings are no-brainers for those of us that have mid-life costs and responsibilities.
If only younger people would listen to baby boomers…! :)

Surely it is no surprise that most EV owners are ahem more mature. Partly it is to do with having somewhere off road to charge, and older people disproportionately live in houses with parking.

Also it is to do with lifestyle. When I was younger I was more impulsive and prone to making long trips at short notice. As I have got older and more responsible, my life has become more routine. I have a greater disposable income and these days I'm more likely to fly or take the train if making a longer journey, they happen less often and I can generally plan in advance. This makes owning an EV a more realistic proposition.

So the EV is your carbon offset :)
It's a fair cop. Can I claim I was young and naive or re-define them as non-terrestrial transit events like perhaps some of our politicians might?

Think I've only used domestic flights twice. In both cases door to door times have been less than 4 hours and return costs less than £100. To have made the journey by train would have taken around twice as long and cost more than three times as much.

It is crazy that flying can be so cheap and trains can be so expensive but we all have our price.🤷‍♂️

The MG4 is looking like its demographic are people who appreciate value for money and are trying to do whatever they can environmentally ;)
I am sure others can rephrase that differently 😁

Having ruffled a few feathers in another thread when I described us as a bunch of geriatrics, it did leave me with the distinct feeling that we don't seem to have many younger members. I may be wrong of course but I thought I'd do a poll to see what the age profile was.
I'll kick off by revealing that I am 63 years old :)
A spring chicken then 🤣

You don't have to sit exclusively in one camp or the other.
I bought the MG as a daily use car because there are umpteen very good reasons for doing so. It's comfortable and even rewarding but it is definitely not exciting, and I do still like to be excited from time to time when I drive.
Fortunately my previous car delivers all of the driving excitement I need so will remain in the garage to be taken out as and when I see fit :devilish:
I don't have my MG yet, but my Kia Smurf is great fun to drive - esp when BMWs & Audi's are left behind when I nip off from traffic lights 😂😂

On an EV News Daily podcast I heard today (I'm about 2 weeks behind), I heard that in Korea, the decade of driver that bought the most EVs was the 50s. I think next was the 40s, then the 60s. So much for mainly the young embracing new technology.

What spurred this post was a very loud ICE car racing away in the background. Quite likely a young driver, whose brains aren't fully formed yet :). I realised that EVs would likely not appeal to that market segment (young hoons), even though EVs are generally quicker than most ICE cars. What's the point of being the quickest if nobody else in the whole suburb knows about it? 🔊🏁🏎️ ;)
There are a couple of EVs coming out which will have designer loud noises, I'm sorry to say.
