MG4 Standard tyres are seriously dangerous!

I am sure they are fine and I am also sure that replacing them gives a big improvement.

Part of the cost cutting on the MG4 is the choice of tyres.

Because it is cheaper than alternatives, I have the option to change the tyres if I want to and I am still ahead on the deal compared to competitors.

And I can change the wiper blades, get some aftermarket mats, upgrade the interior lighting and still be ahead.

The key thing is that it will be my choice, all of the costs are not already in the car and if it is good enough as is, I won't spend on them.

I like this aspect of the MG4, I know some will think the cost cutting goes too far but that's what the more expensive competitors are for.
I can understand what you are saying. And I guess it is down to what you are used to and how much you value improving your car to match your personal standards. Thus far I have no reason to be unhappy with either the tyres or wiper blades.
But time will tell.

Like we discussed at the weekend there is no way you will beat your deal with MG, too good to turn down and look elsewhere 👍

Yes, that's the conclusion we seem to be heading for. Will still look at the Born though.
Hopefully they have an eboost as a demo, you will be smiling I guarantee it

Being a stereotypical tight scotsman I'll be keeping the factory rubber till it's at 2mm :)
I don't find dry or wet grip to be particularly concerning but I do notice the car seems to need constant tiny steering corrections to keep it in a straight line.
Hoping some fresh rubber will cure this odd tendency

the MG4 is perfect stopping, but accelerating its crap! - no major issue, just need to adapt to the car!
I think the acceleration is great, with instant unfussy takeoff from stationary. Spinning the back wheels in the wet is certainly possible, but this is due to the instant power. This car would definitely out-drag my previous BMW X1.

I know I don't have a 4 (I drive a 5) but the tyres it came with (Chinese market Bridgestone IIRC) were questionable at best but haven't changed the fronts yet. The rears were changed (to Kankook Ventus Prime 4) due to an overzealous application of tyre sealing goo after picking up a nail and they have been noticeably quieter, smoother and grippier so I shall be putting a pair on the front in the spring.

I thought the original tyres were decent ( apart from some low speed road noise / vibration coming though into the cabin ) but I’ve just tipped over 2,000 miles and they seam to have lost the ability to grip.

I don’t know if the weather has somehow effected the road ( going cold to warmer quickly ) but even in the dry they don’t seam very good any more.

How do tell if Chinese branded tyres are fitted? Is there some clue in the tyre make/model/spec?

When we first got our MG4 the tyres seemed OK however after 3000 miles it's become apparent all is not well. In anything other then perfect dry conditions it's like driving on ice all the time and not in a fun way! I'm going to speak to the dealer tomorrow however after just 3000 miles they are clearly not fit for purpose. It's a real shame because it's yet another niggle that's stopping us from enjoying the car.

I'll probably replace them with Michelin CrossClimate 2's as I've used them before on our ZS and they seemed really good, has anyone tried them on the MG4 yet?

Can I ask, what tyre pressures are you running?

Also, are you running out of traction on the front or rear wheels?

I have had been driving my Trophy every day for two months now. I have had a few times where the back end stepped out and surprised me, but this seemed to only occurred on damp roads and immediately after starting my journey (when the tyres were completely cold)

On dry and wet roads i have not have not had any issues and the tyres when warmed up a little (difficult to get warmth into tyres during the winter) seem to grip better. The grip available during braking is good, so it must be a mix of my driving and some greasy road surfaces.

I have adjusted my driving accordingly and when the tyres wear down i will replace them with some suitable replacements, but for now i will be keeping the standard tyres. I can understand why some would want to change the tyres but having had several rear wheel drive cars like an RX8 and VX220, i quite enjoy the movement you can feel in the car at times. 🤣

Dont find them much different to my last cars original tyres.......needs a bit of heat or feels like the roads greasy at times. Just drive to the conditions accordingly.

I’ve said this about the 4 too, constant correction needed and not a straight-line stable car.
Would be very tiring on longer journeys.
I honestly can’t remember if my switch to goodyear vector improved this, as it’s 5 weeks the car has been at the dealer and I’d only fitted them a few days before it went in.

I found the standard tyres very inconsistent, sometimes feeling fine and sometimes feeling dodgy.
Inconsistent feel is a massive no in tyres and a complete fail on the manufacturer’s part.

I’m not finding this at all @bowfer - car feels planted stable for me on long journeys or short. I did change the tyres due to vibration but that was solely due to vibration at higher speeds, not because of what you mention. Have they got you a replacement car yet?
