Would you have purchased electric car

I am a new electric car driver, having had an Mg Zs Ev for a month now. I don't want this post to come across as a negative, but knowing what you know now about the Mg Zs Ev and electric cars in general, would you have still purchased it?
My opinion is, knowing things like not getting full range in winter, having to install fast charger because granny charger is so slow, the lack of regularly working charging points, ect, in hindsight i probably would have gone hybrid, instead of going headfirst from combustion engine to electric.
Doing your research thoroughly before is crucial (which i wish i did more of) to enjoying electric more at 1st impression.
On the flip side, im hopefull that come the summer when range will increase, and i can get to open the panoramic roof, i will enjoy the electric experience a lot more.
I definitely would, we’re absolutely over the moon with our MGZS Ev, we have a petrol ZS and its not a patch on the EV!

I ordered my Exclusive ZS EV September 2019 from Stoneacre. Took delivery early 2020 at £23k OTR. I absolutely love it. MG Pilot....amazing. Free electric (Rapid (50kW and Fast 7kW) here in Yorkshire until October 2021. Often top up with granny charger with off peak tariff, so almost free everything! No issues, never let me down. I would never go back to ICE. Will buy Marvel X or R in a heartbeat, great car for me.

Just coming up for a full year of MGZS EV ownership and almost done 10k miles.

I'm loving it. I just wish that I could have had the opportunity to nip out in it more but lockdown has put paid to that!

As said previously, you get a lot of car and toys for the price, my service dealership is spot on and as @shawncullen commented, it is so cost effective to run.

I've just gone through the Annual Road Tax renewal for £0.00 too!

Just done mine too, although it was interesting to still receive a reminder letter with a zero value..👍😄

I love my Mg but I’m confused/bemused about next updates. Booked it in for service today and asked for some clarity on battery update issues and was told I would have to charge it 100 times after update to clear issue. I told them not to do the update and asked why would they even offer it .confused.com

My MG is my first EV, I did my research on EV’s before buying one. The thing that held me back in the past was my belief that the infrastructure was not there to enable full use of the car. Probably that is the case but I would have to admit it is better than I had thought.
After having had my EV for over 6months now it is amazing how little I need that Infrastructure for day to day driving, in fact I don’t need it. Use of the EV is mainly by my wife and she loves it, she commutes back and forth (12mls) to work daily and it never needs a charge for the week. Pre lockdown we do a reasonably long journey each weekend (100mls each way) and the car is charged at home on our home charger and at our weekend stop before we do the journey without a charge mid journey, although in the winter we have done a top up on a couple of occasions just to be safe, not out of desperation.
All of this we took into consideration before buying the car. My first choice car was a Kia e Niro but I simply was not prepared to wait a year to get one. The MG ZS was really on the limits for range for our needs, I felt that it might be in winter we might struggle range wise. So far it’s been fine.
As to public chargers, in 6 months we have used them 3 times, never because we absolutely needed one, having a home charger has made all the difference to us, it’s like having your very own filling station. Would I buy another ICE car, that would be no.

I think you can get a false impression of a car from a forum - people like to post and share issues. The ZS is a good car and many have really enjoyed ownership - that has been trouble free so far. Enjoy your new car 🙂
So what was the problem with your MG? Can’t see any dealer give you your money back because you read of some issues on an online forum.

The only issue I have with the ZS is SWMBO wants it. 😟

I have a slight advantage - my MG5 is not my first EV so I knew what I was getting into. You are right though, it pays to do the research. I cheated and used my brother's Nissan Leaf as my research. He now drives a Jaguar i-Pace so he has also stuck with EVs. I've had my car since 19 December and so far 2900 miles of cheap, trouble free motoring. Mileage is high as I am still able to work even with lockdown due to the nature of my job. My wife uses my old (2018) Renault Zoe for her work as a care worker - easier to park on tight residential streets. She loves it and wouldn't go back to an ICE car.

I've had my Zs ev 2 months now but due to lockdown I haven't driven it as much as I would have liked. Previously I had a Golf automatic petrol. I wouldn't consider a hybrid because you get the worse of both worlds. I've been pleased with the MG and find it a pleasure to drive. The only thing that worries me is the range and availability is WORKING charging points. The blurb states 164 miles range and Zapmap shows plenty of charging points on the longest journey I would be likely to make even allowing for a lesser range. However reading people's comments it seams the range is much lower than advertised and a lot of charging points are unusable. I sometimes wish I'd kept the golf but after the BMS update and my first long run I'll see.

I think you’ll be fine once you get to use your car more and gain confidence in it. They’re a nice car.

I will buy another electric car but not an MG. After software updates, my range has dropped to an unacceptable level.

MG seems to be the only manufacture who make their cars worse after a software update, a sure fire way to lose customers. Tesla increase range, self driving features and performance with upgrades, yes they cost more but who wants a product which gets worse with a software update.

That’s a shame. I think that you are not alone in your frustration. Any company can make mistakes - it’s how quickly and effective they rectify them that shows how good they really are.

Owning a MG ZS EV my experience of driving and enjoying is positive despite the BMS update problems. I use my MG for all my motoring travel sometimes 300+ miles in a day. My previous car was a 30 kWh Nissan Leaf, which I owned for 3 years. Going back to an ICE car is not an alternative and the impact on our environment is not acceptable. Together we can improve the future for our Children and Grandchildren!
You only have to drive behind an ICE car and smell the fumes inside your car and realise what ICE driver’s have to put up with.
There’s more to owning an Electric Car than saving money.
Enjoy your MG motoring.

I wish suppliers were more honest about real world mileages and it’s imperative to do your own research. I also did some scenario journeys on Zap-map. I live in Devon and trying to get to friends in st Neots and Stockport showed what a pain it would be trying to find rapid chargers where you need them. Also the purchased cost of the EV compared to the running costs of my ICE car meant the break even point was over 4 years! Longer than I intend to own it. So why have the hassle of no range, premium price car compared to ICE equivalent and poor quality compared to my old Merc? Even the eco credentials suck with lithium power. However knowing all that and going with your eyes open it still made sense for us to get the ZSEV We sold both our cars as now retired and have fun belting around in the ZS EV on safe 50 mile radius in sport mode, (it’s quite nippy and fun), we charge at home and hire a ICE hybrid when we do occasional long journeys- Simples!
