MG4 Software Update Thread

Not sure that's quite correct, although the LKA functionality is controlled elsewhere, the switching on/off is a feature of the info system, my reasoning for this is the abstract way it can be switched back on by screen changing from dark/light and also a few posters have previously stated pre info sys only SW update they could leave it off but now it defaults to on.
On the NCAP certification I believe it would simply change it rating, I think (and stand to be corrected) that a 5* rating requires these systems to default on, a 4* possibly not??
I for one would prefer option to leave it off at the expense of the extra *
Unfortunately losing that one star off the NCAP rating would probably have an extremely unwelcome affect on our insurance premiums :(.
I'd rather have to switch off LKA than find a few extra hundred pounds for insurance.

What is R46 like? Any noticeable bugs?
I had it done a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be fine - so far! Even the BT issue with the phone seems sorted. Much prefer the new look to the A/C page.

Just got my mg4 trophy back (MY22) It went in with the following issues:

1. Infotainment was crashing and stuck in side swipe loop
2. Android auto crashing
3. LKA - dangerously aggressive and unpredictable when auto adjusting steering
4. Phone BT - iPhone not keeping connection
5. Auto lights - too sensitive to Shadows during daytime
6. Turning error message - speed too fast error message every time I indicated and turned a corner

The dealership updated a tonne of different softwares on the vehicle (I've asked for an email breakdown of everything). The infotainment has been upgraded from R30 to R40.

Observations on my way home:

1. The air con menu has a new look which I prefer
2. The LKA is significantly less dangerous and more of an alert rather than trying to kill me by forcing me off the road
3. Turning error message has gone completely
4. Infotainment feels a bit more responsive
5. The lights weren't switching automatically on and off as I drove through shadowy areas of road and forest.

It's early days so I'll report back in a week on iPhone BT connection stability, general infotainment stability and the auto lights switching in the daytime.

The temperature reading in the top right hand corner is also still there.

It's looking promising, fingers crossed everything has changed for the better🤞

Here's the details from the dealership themselves

1 - The FICM (Front Infotainment Control Module) has been updated to R40 software – this should resolve the screen scrolling from side to side, DAB volume and Android Auto issues you have been experiencing.

2 - The RC008 MG4 Locking Functionality Update has been performed as necessary.

3 – The SCUK001 Service Action has been carried out to update the BCM, EVCC and FDR systems – this will update the Lane Keep Assist function and since performing the update the “Speed too High – AVM too close” message has not appeared for us. The Lane Keep assist function is now at the latest software update – as I mentioned, we have had some customers comment it still can be a little fierce however unless MG release a new update we are unable to adjust its sensitivity and further

Why didn’t they put R46 on it?

No idea! I jumped in to check the system and saw R40 but I had two feral kids in the back to stop me running in to question why.

It seems good for now, if I get any issues I'll head back to discuss if R46 is a viable route

LKA tip for Luxury/Trophy R30
I see many having problems with the LKA going on again if having screen set to auto or the car set to park. Instead of disabeling the LKA choose to turn it to alert instead, + set the warning to low (it remember the warning setting).
Now it wil only reengage LKA when leaving your seat and changing the screen from dark to light does not matter. + this one can do while driving and stationary. Off course one have to touch the brake pedal and set the car to "Ready" state before one can do this (alert switch is not visible before ready). Hope this help some as the Alert seting is just a rumble in steering colum and a beep (have not bothered to turn of any of that jet).

A bit late to this one, I got my Exclusive LR (i.e. Trophy in the UK) on July 18th with R46 installed. I don't have any of the issues above (bluetooth/carplay switching sides/etc.).
I did have a problem with CarPlay but it turned out to be a connector issue (a fairly new, genuine Apple cable but it was a tiny bit loose). The only other issue is that I can't select one of the alternate options on the L/H star button - it always returns to default after 2 seconds.

I believe they have issued a fix for the left star button problem. Ask your dealer.

Very annoying that the R4X updates aren't releases world wide. Still much older version in Norway.
R4X are for right-hand drive models in UK and Ireland, possibly other RHD territories too. The numbering for other territories is completely different.
Your version in Norway may be more advanced and have more fixes than the RHD UK/Ireland versions.

Hello everyone. I have just updated my STD 2023 with the R29 and these are the improvements I have seen:

The appearance of the AC screen has changed.

You can now choose on the left star between drive mode, regeneration or AC.

It also now shows the outside temperature of the vehicle.
That’s good that our SE is up to R29. Would like the drive modes too

This is an SE? Great news if so , especially as I see the outside temp in the corner (y)

Edit - maybe a phase 2 SE. Still, looks better than before. Also blows more smoke on the notion that the outside temp was never supposed to be there…

Edit 2 - the MCU version is also a lot newer than any other I’ve seen on an SE. Hopefully that’s promising for the phase 1 cars…

Could you then please then explain why we with LHD got the same R30/R33 in our Luxurys as you RHD have in your Trophys?

What my dealer in Ålesund Norway says is that MG Norway do not want to release software versions that are not tested enough.

I gues Spain is doing the tests for LHD?
