MG4 Software Update Thread

Had mine updated due a number of issues - I'm now on R46 - Its worthy of mentioning that if you don't have or report certain issues the dealer cant claim under warranty for the R46 update. (That was what I was informed)

So quick recap

I can say that mine NOW does work 98% better than it did before .. This s/w should have been the level that they started with ... Hey ho

AC screen - I can now adjust what I want and it responds correctly & at the time I touch the screen

Apple Play - WORKS - get in car plug phone in and its recognized. Daft but that was a bit issue for me not having something as basic as that working.

Battery Management - I can now pre heat with CABLE CONNECTED - Granted the Car has to be not charging / But the cable can now be left in and from the Phone APP you can initate pre heat / pre cool - In addition the screen in the car looks a tad tidier re Battery info.

Lane Keep Assist - Initially I thought it was 100& better - Now after doing roughly a 100 miles with it - I will say its at least 95% better - Not particularly Great - BUT Most certainly a MAJOR improvement on previous - Still room for improvement

Auto Lights - Yes I do believe that has also been 'worked on' - As mine is now far more 'off' when prior it would have been on when they simply didnt need to be ...

Think that covers 'my' experience of R46 and my MG4 (Trophy edition)
What version were you on before the update ?
I'm on R33 and have had none of the issues you mention apart from the auto lights being a bit too sensitive.

I was on r33 too ...

So makes you question what other s/w versions some of the other modules on my car were at - I know its had a full flush of ALL available updates for all modules R46 covers a raft in its own right

R33 on mine, issues being experienced:
1. Bluetooth constantly disconnects and fails to re-connect. Leaving my phone with multiple failed BT entries listed.
2. Car starts off navigation fine, but then loses any network connection making Sat Nav unusable, POI under user profile inaccessible. Intermittent issue. Re-boots whilst driving do not help. Only stopping the car, locking and unlocking fixes temporarily.
3. Pressing the left star button on steering wheel to change drive modes (as set) always brings up the air-con screen on the main display for a short while.
4. Drive mode & regen settings not remembered
5. Heating only gets warm when to 26 degrees and above (not sure an info system update will fix that, but it might)

Booked in for R46 on the 17th Oct.... due to that dealer being popular hence so busy, plus 'technicians' (mechanics) leaving other dealers.

Ok, I guess I'm just less fussed about some of those.
On your points,
1) I tend not to use my phone at all in the car anyway.
2) I hardly use the sat nav as most of my trips are local.
3) I've set my left button to cameras.
4) the default drive mode and regen setting are fine for me.
5) I leave the heater setting on 25 auto and although it is slow, it does eventually warm up, but I pre heat on High as anything less takes more than the allocated 10 minutes to make any noticeable difference.

That's good (y) .... butl does not negate the fact that they are software bugs within R33, which affects me. So i'm pursuing a release which fixes as many as possible.

Is Bluetooth connection now stable. Does it not keep asking you to re pair your phone?

Regen stays on what youve set - Mine is on Max and has always stayed on max (3)
Try setting an alternative, get out and lock the car, unlock the car and get back in - see what regen level is preselected. Unless your car is an outlier, with software foibles that prevent standard settings, I guarantee that level 3 will be preselected. ;)

My Trophy went in for R46 update on Friday from R30 . It was with the dealership all day and when I picked the car up it still had R30 installed . They said they had completed the update and the laptop had said it had been installed . They are now saying it must be a fault on the car for not accepting the update and need to refer back to MG All seems very strange I think they must have done something wrong but they say not ? . Now waiting to here back from them .

The update to R33 on mine did not work via their update software - said it had done it but when it rebooted it was still on R30. The tech then just copied the file to a USB stick and installed it from there ok.
You obviously had a tech who knew what he was doing . They didn't now it had not installed on mine until I told them it was still on R30 they had not checked in the car's display.

Sounds like I was lucky/my dealer knows what they are doing. It did take them a while to get all updates done, but that was because the dealer had network issues this morning.

Fortunately they had it in all day and I had an almost identical MG4 (but covered in dealer stickers) as a loan car.

As for the update itself. Seems ok but haven’t used it much yet. LKA doesn’t turn off permanently now, but also seems much better- it’s set to the low sensitivity setting (not sure if dealer did this or if it’s default)

and here I am with my brand new car still on R33...

What problems are you having with R33?
  • Lane assist is basically useless, even in perfect conditions it only works 50% of the time
  • bluetooth tends to disconnect or refuse to connect
  • lots of beeping and booping since it always thinks I will run over every person I see. Often engages emergency breaking when not neccesary, scared someones going to crash into my rear end soon

and I just wish i had OPD to be honest
