Hello everyone I picked but my brand new ZS EV yesterday and this morning I was tinkering around trying to learn all about it when a warning came up about the 9V battery and I couldn't start the car. A quick Google search led me to you guys thankfully and I managed to get going ok in the end. Not a brilliant start!! Hopefully once the car has been driven a bit more it will look after the 9v battery itself!

Welcome. I’m sure you’ll love your new car. When you start the car it’s always advisable to set it to ready even if you’re just sitting in the car and not driving. That way the high voltage battery tops up the 12v battery.

How low can you take the 12v battery before it hasn't got enough to switch to 'ready' mode?

Welcome Katherine - no probs with tinkering as most, if not all of the members here, are just as guilty! :D I'm sure you'll enjoy your new purchase and feel free to ask questions.

Cheers

Er, 9volt batter? Do you mean the 12volt one? 🤔

It’s a great car!! Enjoy it!!

You have a 12 volt battery condition gauge on the dash of the ZSEV.
If you have the car in the NON READY condition ( ignition on only ) the keep an eye on the voltage shown on the gauge.
If the gauge indicates anything close to below a 12 volt status, fully boot the car.
Otherwise you run the risk of running your 12 volt battery down to level that will not boot up the car !.
Best plan, keep the the car in the full READY mode.
Not worth the risk IMHO !.

Hello and welcome. As others have already pointed out, when doing anything in the car that requires power when you're not driving, have the car turned on in ready mode - as if you going to drive - that way it'll use power from the main battery that drives the car, not the 12v accessory battery which you can run down quickly. If that dies you won't be able to drive the car!

The first stage of the start button is really a waste of time. I can’t see what purpose it has. In fact I hope in future models they do away completely with the start button. Just foot on the brake to turn the car on.

I do see your point.
The only time I have found the first stage of process of any use, is when I have noticed if the the windows have been slightly left open when the car had been parked on the drive in the hot weather for ventilation.
Then I can just open the drivers door and without completely entering the car, I can reach in and hit the button ( key in pocket of course ).
This will bring the car alive, to enable the windows to be closed, then another press to shut the car down.
I have found no other useful use for this facility to be honest ?.
If this first stage feature was removed, then the 12 volt battery gauge could be replaced with a percentage gauge for the HV battery instead maybe ???????.

Hi LMev, I gather from what you have wrote you don’t know this but if the windows or open and you won’t to close them just press and hold the lock button on your key remote and that will close them also if you want to open the windows just press and hold the open button and down they go, no need to turn car on at all lots of cars do this nowadays from lots of different manufacturers

I'm on a VERY steep learning curve here😕
Hi and hello Katherine your dead right but so did we all but has as been said already don’t be afraid to ask anything about anything to do with these cars you will always get a reply and believe me there are many owners on this forum who know these cars better than the dealers who sell them so welcome on board and just take your time to learn there’s no rush and with the knowledge of this forum you will get there and enjoy your new car even better

Hi @Les burrows .
No - You are totally correct, I was not aware that the ZS EV had what BMW call a “Total Closure” facility !.
My previous VW had this feature also.
I will test and report back on your advice.

Not on the ZS, only on the 5 :(

Wow really so another good point for the 5 then I didn’t know that even my wife’s 15 old Vauxhall’s corsa does it my last 3 Skodas did first one from 2002
My old Prius had this feature but for some strange reason it was turned off by default, I had to turn it on using the Carista app.
