Next batch of LR? (UK)

This is Globalisation - a drive to reduce the cost of production (and hence final cost) results in a movement of everything from manufacturing to clothing to food production to the cheapest supplier.

Most of this is relatively transparent to consumers unless they take an interest - does anyone really care that your blueberries come from South America so long as you can get them 'out of season'?

The recent impact of Covid combined with labour shortages and increased border checks for the UK have highlighted the fragility of importing products/produce from the other side of the world.

The issue with restarting manufacturing (or food production) in the UK is that the skills are now all but lost, as is the machinery (and the willingness of the workforce to do more manual labour orientated tasks).

I blame the Industrial Revolution - didn't have these issues when people still worked down pit or in mill 😜
Beyond Covid, Climate change will have a far more dramatic consequence on the supply chain. Either Governments will finally get it or it will become hard due to climatic changes

I see that these 2 ships are having to dodge the Mediterranean Hurricane! The Medicane.

It will be just my luck if the boat sinks!! In 2009 I ordered a new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive as I was doing a long motorway commute and it promised fantastic mpg (I did actually get 75mpg going backwards and forwards on the M5!) I ended up with an ex demonstrator as my new car got irreparably damaged by giant hailstones while waiting to be put on the boat in Spain!! I was offered another new one but also the demonstrator at a good price so decided to go with the latter.

Don't jinx my delivery!

Looks like heading to Egypt, or does it go from there on to Bristol?
Speaking with my ex-ship's engineer hat on. Heading for a place does not mean it will go there. We used to head for Land's End and await orders on where to go (LEFO, Land's End For Orders) but, sure enough, would always divert before colliding with Cornwall.

I've posted this elsewhere in the "Shipping Updates" thread, but for those who are following here, I got informed that my MG5 is currently at Portbury Docks. I'd been half expecting it to arrive on the Grand Orion due to the dealers predicted arrival date.

However it looks as though it came in on another ship. Possibly one of those MG buy extra space on.

I ordered August 27th. So if you did also in or around that time, perhaps yours is at the docks now. I emailed the dealer to check up rather then them telling me.

That’s great news. Did you get an indication for how long it would take to get from there to taking delivery of the car?

The estimate was the 10th November.

I read some forum posts outside of this site that suggested 10-14 days is common. Although those posts were from 2018 where they were not suffering from the added difficulties of HGV Driver shortages and other Covid/Brexit related difficulties.

The dealer said "Any time between now and the 10th, plus a day or two to get the car ready"

So nothing definitive at all 🙃

Ordered mine at start of Sept, was told to expect early to mid Nov. The dealer said today they have no news but it will def be this month.

Just as well as Portugal is cooling down and it's nearly time to come home (been here 6+ weeks :) )

Did you drive there?

Nah, flew and rented, got a nearly new Ibiza. Was sitting on the beach the other day wondering whether I might drive down next year - either use the tunnel and long drive, or long ferry to Spain and shorter drive. Will be pricing it up (and look at timings/practicality with the EV)

This summer I drove my LEAF via the Santander ferry, next year I've booked to drive the MG5 via the channel tunnel

Blimey, that's brave! When back in Blighty I would be interested to ask you more about the experience!!

Tracking the wrong ship -

I did this post about it

Mines a white and promised mid to late Nov so hoping it’s one of these. Emailed dealer earlier with some other bits and just asked for an update.
The waiting is the hardest part!
