Had an email from my dealer last night - here are the main points.
Covid outbreak in China likely to affect delivery of new cars.
Global supply of components is affecting all cars, especially EVs.
About 100 cars arrived in March - that does not amount to even 1 per dealer.
MG UK have successfully lobbied the factory to send proportionally more car to the UK to attempt to meet unprecedented demand - 5000 cars will be arrive in the UK in 2022.
Confirmation of £500 price increase in April and possibly further increases in the summer due to increased component and shipping costs.
If you have already ordered, your price will remain fixed.
Put simply, he still cannot give you any cast-iron assurances over when your car will arrive. he can, however, assure you that everyone throughout the supply chain is motivated to deliver the cars as quickly as possible. You may see some suppliers offering ETA’s (Estimated Time of Arrival) to their customers, but he refuses to offer speculative dates when we are all in the same boat of simply guessing/estimating. He would much rather offer you the truth and then inform you of something more concrete than give you a date and then keep pushing it back.
He will continue to send these updates to all 800+ customers they have awaiting ZS EV LR’s when they have any wider information to share, but given the sheer volume, moving forward, it’s only possible to update individuals on their order when they get a material change to your order status (ie, they can give you a more concrete ETA based on your car being shipped).
As a final note, the factory have been able to produce more of the Standard Range version of this car and for anyone who can live with 197 miles of range, He can provide concrete delivery dates on that car. A couple of people taken a Standard Range and plan to part exchange it against their Long Range when it arrives later in the year, given the depreciation may not differ too greatly from the costs of running/maintaining and increased depreciation of an ICE vehicle.
Most of the information is not what people waiting for their new car want to hear but at least he is being honest, which I for one think is better than putting a finger in the air and giving a date that cannot be confirmed.
Hope this information is of use.
