Hi and sorry if the following has been discussed but, our MGZSEV on a 70 plate with 8000 miles on the clock is now only achieving a charge of 157 miles despite the current moderate temperature (climate). The car is charged on a home charger and periodically charged on a Granny charger to balance the battery is 157 miles in good conditions and good battery management a sign of something amiss ? (PS Our MG has been serviced by an authired MG dealer).

Have you reset the trip counters and turned off the HVAC to get an accurate prediction?

Do you put it on eco mode after resetting the long trip counter?
What was the SOH at the last service ?

Tom - Are you aware that the car WILL still perform a "Balance Cycle" of the HV battery, when hooked up to either the wall box OR the "Granny Lead".
You can not perform a balance from a Rapid charger of course.

P.S. Jomarkh regarding your link to Octopus Energy.
My supplier, AVRO went bust in September 2021 and I was transferred to Octopus.
With AVRO I paid 7.28 a kWh and 27.22 a day Standing Charge.
Octopus Energys best deal in September 2021 for me was 27.35 kWh and 48.26 a day Standing Charge. I stayed with them but missed two better deals.

Lovemyev: please see line three of my initial communication:
"and periodically charged on a Granny charger to balance "

Assuming that both trip counters have been reset and that the 157 miles range is fully charged and balanced when in normal mode, this suggests that you have about 3.7% battery degradation (SOH = 96.3%). This would not be unreasonable for a car approaching 2 years old. My Jan 2020 ZS EV now has 6.9% degradation (SOH = 93.1%) with 30,000 miles on the clock.
The calculation for your car is degradation = (163-157)/163 = 3.68%

It suggests to me that your overall m/kWh is less than 3.7.
Do you do a lot of short journeys ?
Take it on a longer trip on A-roads 50-60mph tops and your m/kWh will go over 4 and bring the range back up.

lovemyev was saying that you don't need to use the granny lead to balance. Any AC charger such as your home EVSE will balance the battery, only DC rapid chargers (CCS) will not balance the cars battery.

Hi Tom,

I had a similar thing with my MK1, it never showed the range I expected when full.

Yesterday I charged at home on my 7kw charger. Once full and stopped I unlocked the car and locked it again. This restarted the charge and it soon dropped to 350w and stayed that way for over two hours.

My GOM went from 157 to 162.

Although I only AC charge I'm wondering whether it ever properly did a balance charge. By restarting the charging once full it initiates a balance charge.

Maybe worth a try.

Hi Guys, newbie here. Had my ZS EV since sept 2021 and 8600 kms. I predominantly charge overnight using an ordinary socket and the "Granny lead" and consistently get 340 kms showing when fully charged. My settings are drive mode ECO, hvac off. My average consumption equates to 15 kw/hrs per 100 kms.

Could someone advise me where the "New member" section where I can introduce myself ?

There is a dedicated thread here:

or you can just raise a new thread in the general chat area :)

Thats only a 3% difference which I wouldn't bother about. Batteries are not mechanical things that can be predicted exactly. If you change the driving mode it will give you a much larger range difference than 3%. We had a Mitubishi Outlander PHEV that used to show how efficiently you had driven. After my wife had driven & charged she would always get several more miles range than me so that must have been a variable factor in the range calculation which is probably the same on the MG.

You're paying 48p per day standing charge with Octopus? Bugger, we're arranging to get solar panels done and I was going to switch to them but that standing charge is almost double my British Gas charge of 25.92 per day.
