MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

From what I could ascertain, this why we're seeing a few of these LR cars on sale:

What actually happens:
  • All orders that were not for legitimate customers should have been cancelled as instructed by MG, and dealer now faces a £1.5k fine if they change a name on an order.
  • Car delivery turns up & happens to be one of these 'ghost' orders that should've been cancelled but somehow slipped through (speculate away on how it was circumvented:cautious: ).
  • Dealer doesn't want to contact MG and tell them the car does not match to a legitimate customer, because they don't want to risk it going to another dealership & lose money.
  • Dealer therefore registers the car to themselves, uses it minimally & then offers it up for sale at a mark-up shortly after.
  • Waiting customers aren't technically affected in so much as the build number allocated to them at purchase has not changed.

What should have happened:
  • Car delivery turns up & it happens to be one of these 'ghost' orders that should've been cancelled but somehow slipped through.
  • Dealer contacts MG to say they received an erroneous vehicle and asks whether they can change the name on it to fulfil an existing customer order, without facing a £1.5k fine.
  • MG says no...sends it elsewhere. OR
  • MG says yes, and a customer waiting at that dealership finally gets their car.

Basically it's a bit of a dog's breakfast and can come down to the honesty of your dealer, and/or whether you're prepared to better your chances by paying through the nose.
Out of curiosity I have just looked on Autotrader and found 43 long range MG ZS EV’s - brand new unregistered in the UK. Some say order now and promise a few months delivery, but a number of them state in stock for immediate delivery. They must have been pre-ordered for stock. Prices are around £34K - £35K so assume that this includes the £1500 fine?

£2k deposit 😲. I wouldn't go that far, but I'd risk £500 if it means I may get a car I want, without this dishonesty & poor customer service.

Right now though, I'm absolutely fuming. The exact spec car I ordered is currently being sold on AutoTrader by my dealership, because ultimately they were able to receive a few cars. What they should have done is contact MG, and ask if one of us waiting customers could have had it. Totally taking advantage of customers because of the market. I'm livid.
How did the dealership manage to receive a few cars - my understanding is that when MG UK get a shipment of cars they distribute to satisfy orders. The only way I can think of is that the dealership ordered a load of cars on false names and when they arrive they pay £1500 (if MG are really applying the fine) and sell with a higher profit. I am starting to lose confidence in the order process and wonder if there is any way that it is possible to check that your car is actually on order. Can we get MG UK to confirm all the order dates and customer names.

I don't know how they swung it. Maybe they just had it listed to the owners name rather than to the business, & MG are none the wiser. Even if a genuine delivery error, bottom line is that nobody already waitlisted is getting it.

You may also be right here, I never thought of that. Maybe they are trying to cover any potential fine in the asking price, and if they don't get caught by MG then win/win.

I'm going to stop whining now, & have a big fat brandy

I can totally feel your frustration, I would be absolutely bouncing to be honest !.
I would be paying the dealer a visit and airing my frustrations to the sales manager, or above.
Ask the question how is possible to offer this car for sale, with the current huge backlog of customer orders, still waiting for their cars ?.
Was it a cancelled order, was it intended as a Demo model, was it a ghost order with no customers name allocated to it ?.
If the answers are vague then I have to say that this smacks of total profiteering and I would tell him / her so directly.
They are showing a complete and utter disregard to their loyal customers, who have placed deposits months and months ago in good faith, on cars that they had never even seen, let alone driven !.
And this is how they repay their loyalty.
If this practice is allowed to continue, then no customers are ever going to get their cars.
Any of the few cars arriving, are going to be offered to the highest bidder.
Not all dealers are doing this, it should be said.
I think they call this type of tactics "Supply and demand".
It is very quick to pick out the good guy's from the bad guy's in this game folks.

On speaking to my dealer today I was told that they were not able to fulfill delivery on any of their long range models. And they have over 200 orders.
I doubt very much that they will be able to fulfill all these orders by this year.
Which dealer was this if you don’t mind me asking please?

I suppose car dealers are in the business to make profits. They will be having tough times with all the costs going up - electric/gas additional tax on wages etc. We only visit every three years so are they really bothered about each customer individually and there is a chance that we may choose a different make of car next time in any case. They make approx £1K on each car, but they can’t get cars so profits must be down. It still does not feel good to be treated poorly, but if they get an opportunity to make some money I suppose they have bills to pay.

It's all about the money - honey 👏 :giggle:.

Im trying to patiently wait for my order but reading all this has me fuming at this circus of a brand. Also im starting to think that perhaps it’s worth jumping ship, as it seems MG are in no rush to fulfil customer orders and their waiting times are by no means accurate or anywhere near actual figures. So even if i jump ship i may still get it before this order is built, let alone delivered, if i go with a 6-9month wait car from another manufacturer. That or i need to come off this forum and wait patiently in oblivion.

Also I had an issue with my order date as well, which to date I am still not sure who is telling the truth, i ordered March 28th and dealer said it was for a stock pre-order (back when it was allowed, before this was discontinued) which was placed in December but pushed through in January (??whatever that means??) and when contacting MG with my order number they said my order was put through in early April 😒 (luckily not 3 months later like some), my dealership stuck to their story, and i decided to wait either way. However, my patience is wearing thin as things are becoming even more uncertain with these unethical antics being played by some dealerships which MG is oblivious to or just doesn't care cause it means more sales

Hendy Exeter MG
It is what I have been saying earlier in the thread.

Luscombe are another.

Yes some are click bait and they don’t have the stock, but there are dealers out there with stock, and MG are not allowing dealers to switch them to waiting customers.

It’s beyond stupid.

My thought for the day, I now believe that China is playing mind games with all of us on the waiting list for MG’s, it’s like their water torture but using MG cars instead. It’s starting to drive me mad I tell you, MAD, MAD 🤣

After reading some comments I thought I'd check the V5c of our ZS ex demo car... Number of former keepers 1 but no details of who 🤔 just blank. Every logbook I've ever had has the previous keepers name and address. Not every keeper, just the last one before me.

And I've often felt like complaining to AutoTrader about false advertising of cars listed as being in stock when they're not at all.
