Hi all

I bought a dashcam from Halfords and they were going to fit it for me also, but when they realised my car was all electric they said they couldn't fit dashcam's to all electric cars as they are not insured to do it....it was something to do with the wiring and the fuse box.....just wondered if anyone has any suggestions on where to get dash cam fitted.
thanks

I wouldn't trust Halfords to touch 🤣🤣

I did mine except the power cable, which just hangs down. What's the best place to route that to and how?

Have a look here:

You can tuck in under the roofing along to the top corner of the door, a short visible hop to the 'rubber' trim strip and tuck the wire under that down to the dash. From there tie it up or feed it so that it isn't hanging down.

I'll have a look. Not sure the cable was that long though... not to go right back to the cigar lighter

As suggested tuck it along the roof lining to the right hand A pillar. Pull the rubber door seal from the top of the A pillar trim cover down to the fuse box cover on the end of the Dashboard. Poke it down between the A pillar trim and the roof lining about 2cm it should fall off the roof lining to pull it down the rear edge of the A pillar trim and into the fusebox area.

In fact if you are using a cigar lighter adapter you will need to start from the other end and work up to the Dash cam. Better still use a hardwire kit and wire directly to the fuse box then you don't need to have the lighter door permanently open.

Halfords fitted mine, done a cracking job, got it done on March. 😀

I have a front and rear nextbase dash cam connected to the usb in the mirror housing, works perfect.
I contacted nextbaxe beforehand to check if it would be ok, they said there would not be enough power to operate the cameras. But hey it has been working fine for two months I have had the MK2 ZS

I'm seeking too but nextbase or such known brands are very expensive even all the specifications seems same with the ones listed in Amazon which are much more reasonable for the price and have good rates such as 4,5 stars ( from over 1,5 thousands customer ) but even though I couldn't rely on . Do you know about those items or heard any experiences around you ?

That's great but this is the MG5 forum 😂

I drive a ZS EV LR and as you know there is USB access next to the rear view mirror.
Excuse my ignorance but if I plug in the dash cam to the USB is that not all there is to it?

Why are people having to rewrite and all to engine?
Not understanding what the difference is.

it is as simple as that.

Some people want the ability to have the camera permanently live to record accidents when the car is parked.

For this, you need a permanent live connection, the USB socket is only live when the ignition is on.
