MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

Was at an event today hosted by my Dealer for EV owners in Dublin. Took another test drive in the ZS EV LR just to remind myself why I'm waiting so long on my order, and had genuinely forgotten how good it was to drive it. Was able to play with the sunroof and stick it in sport mode and just floor it, smiling all the time.

Also saw a new advert just posted up on carzone.ie for SE ZS LR for just under €42k!! these are the base model that were originally advertised in Jan 22 for €32845 (white or +€700 for non-red colour), that's a €9000 increase for just a base model 😮 This is advertised as coming soon! (yeah right)

I was trying to get an idea if my dealer had any news on when cars would be arriving while there today but nothing new, still have no idea on when its due to arrive, so I'll continue to wait, especially if the prices are going up that much

I have a SR order from Tusker from January. Last date they gave me was Sept. Now they can’t give a date at all.

it’s down to the supplying dealer more than Tusker - they dont know anything other than what the dealer tells them. The dealer should of contacted you directly to confirm your order details. Mine is Luscombe Leeds.
I also have a blue SR Trophy Connect on order since Jan this year from Tusker, delivery date showing as early July, when my current lease ends, and current delivery status is “Awaiting Final Delivery Checks”. The dealer used is Perrys. I’m in Inverness, Scotland.

Living not far from Portbury, when the Adriatic Highway arrives there, I'm going to make sure I look the other way when its unloaded. I don't think I could bear watching them unload all those promised MG LRs (assuming they're on board) knowing that the chances of any of them being mine are practically zero.

we all realise we have to wait but it's the lack of information and the fact that they don't build by order date.

Bloody hell, if it’s gone up £9k and if it’s true, they are dropping the sun roof going forwards, it’s putting MG into better EV cars territory, that must make it in the £40k range, would I buy another MG in that price range, without the sunroof…it’s a NO from me, I’d maybe look at the Volvo xc40 or whatever it is..

I don't see that flying.

The car in ICE form in base spec is about £16k - let's face it, it's a cheap SUV with last generation Quashai styling.

Just saw the advert on carzone. The car is registered Jan ‘22 and has 1000 km. Second hand. Reckon the dealer is chancing it by making out it is a rare car and hence the buyer needs to pay over the odds.

The only thing I didnt take into consideration on this is that the dealer may not have taken €5000 off for the SEAI Grant here in Ireland. Some dealers advertise it with the 5k off and some dont, but even if you take €5000 off the price as advertised, its still way over priced for a SE\Excite spec, even if it is new.

Semi conductor factory fire that makes ~70% of global supply had a very large fire. Production halted. This means your car might be delayed by 6 to 12 months.
I heard a pack of stray dogs sneaked into the factory under an ajar roller shutter door, deficated & urinated on all the rolls of carpet for the boots and foot wells. Some dealers and even MG UK say this will result in unknown delays, but my dealer says he spoke to Mike Crack, a senior manager at MG and it definitely adds only 69 days delay to deliveries.

The consequences of the semiconductor plant fire were much worse than could have been reasonably anticipated. I was having tea with my dealer and he explained that Fireman Sam was off with Covid and Cridlington was lead firefighter that day.

That’s not the best of it. They have Postman Pat employed to deliver the cars. Jess the cat has run away and they have all the factory looking for her. Add another 69 days delay.

In the 90s I had trouble getting hold of a Commodore Amiga because, guess what, a fire in a semiconductor factory. The same story comes around every couple of years. Usually a fire in an unspecified factory. This time I think they said it was an earthquake. It's odd how these semiconductor shortages only affect some products and not others. In this case it seems that the shortage only affects long range and not short range MG models.

The other excuse I keep hearing is that car manufacturers use wire lattices that are assembled in Ukraine. I find to hard to believe that a Chinese manufacturer would outsource manufacturing to Europe. In any case, the war in Ukraine started in February. Cars ordered in November and December should have been on their way to the UK long before then.

Congrats, slightly jealous as I’m the same colour and I ordered in Dec and no sign of it turning up yet according to my dealer.
I think the dealer only opened quite recently. I was told my order was one of the first and I ordered in March. I suppose they just don't have the backlog running to November 2021 that other dealers have.

I'm in the same situation, confirmed order with Tusker, dealer is Luscombes - they say order will be allocated. But now I'm worried I won't get a sunroof when the car is eventually delivered (whenever that is)

I've just had this reply from JustEV's to an email I sent for an update:

"Many thanks for your email. Production is still challenging for all manufacturers at the moment so delays are still the case. The positive news I can offer is that our very early orders back in Oct/Nov 2021 are due in towards the end of this month. Looking at your order in January this year we are anticipating yours to be in the UK towards the end of September 2022.
I thank you for your patience and understanding so far, as soon as I have further news of your Blue MG ZS Trophy, I will let you know."

I emailed back to say that colour was not important, and they will let me know if they get any cancelled orders etc.

Response from MG UK below. I have got the standard response. They have not answered any of the questions asked. I even told them that my dealer has no information and the response is to talk to my dealer.

Thank you for getting in touch with MG motor!

Based on the information you have provided us with, it seems your vehicle order is currently on shortage awaiting factory build, until production has been confirmed we cannot confirm an exact arrival date.

We understand your frustration and we would like to let you know that there has been a high demand on the model and the delivery lead time set initially for all vehicle orders was around 4 months, however, this would be subject to change, due to a number of factors considered, ie. logistic challenge, global chip issue, current order queue, etc. You can continue to liaise with your MG dealer for any updates as the information is transparent across the dealer network.

Your feedback is much appreciated. It is best for you to discuss with your purchasing MG dealer any alternative options. If your MG dealership has any issues with their customers' vehicle orders, they can speak with the regional manager for a solution.

We're truly sorry for any disappointment this has caused.

Kind regards,
MG Motor UK
